Squashing only makes sense if you are not good at commits and commit messages. If your commits or commit messages are not useful then I agree squashing makes sense

we are not asking the right questions
- was there a contract?
- will you release the contract?
- what did the contract say?
- who in the team was aware of the sniping?
- where were the sniped funds supposed to go if the project was successful?
... etc
