For the first time in more than 60 years, a new subway will be tunnelled beneath downtown Toronto. Two tunnel boring machines, known as Libby and Corkie, are starting their journey to connect six new underground Toronto subway stations for the Ontario Line subway.
A large tunnel boring machine is positioned underground, pointing towards an exit. Pipes and machinery are visible beside it. Above ground, a tall building stands against a clear blue sky with text that reads "Tunnelling starting for Ontario Line, Swipe to see Libby’s journey".
A construction site featuring a large tunnel boring machine positioned in the centre. Surrounding the machine are high-rise buildings and a crane. The CN Tower is visible in the background against a blue sky with clouds. Text over the photo reads "First Ontario Line tunnel boring machine (TBM) assembled in the factory".
A large vessel named "Wagenborg" is docked at a port. Workers are using a crane to load or unload a large, circular industrial component onto a flatbed truck nearby. Several people in safety gear are observing and coordinating the operation on the dock and atop the ship. Text over the image reads "TBMs arrive in Canada on a foggy summer day".
A large tunnel boring machine is displayed inside a green-roofed industrial building. The central part of the machine is distinctively marked with a red star-like design, while the outer section is white. Text over the image reads "Libby on site at the tunnel launch shaft".
