On Friday (19 July), there was a trespasser of an unusual nature on the tracks at Ascot as an escaped tortoise called Solomon was moving โat paceโ (according to the incident report) towards Bagshot.
Network Rail teams arranged for the next train heading into Ascot from Aldershot to stop shortly to allow the tortoise to be rescued, getting the shellebrity onto the train to bring it into the station.
โ ๏ธ๐ง๏ธ Video from #Addlestone - this is whatโs causing the disruption to @SW_Help customers on the route via Chertsey.
Itโs liquified mud thatโs flowed onto the live rail and turning to steam.
Once the mud has stopped flowing we will work on getting it cleared.
Thanks to everyone for your patience as we start the progress of recovery after the #Salisbury accident. The first of the @SW_Help carriages is now on its way to be loaded onto a lorry and taken off. This picture also shows why London Road is closed.
We're really pleased to say that the railway through #Salisbury is on track to reopen fully on Tuesday, 16 November. We're so grateful to customers, neighbours, local and industry partners for their support.

โ ๏ธ Weโre really sorry for the disruption this evening around Motspur Park
๐ This is because a vehicle has got itself stuck at the level crossing
๐ทWeโre on site now assessing if there has been any damage to the railway
๐ขGood morning. We have some better news for @SW_Help customers following the Hook landslip. At the weekend, our engineers successfully changed the track layout so that we can have a line running in each direction.
Sometimes nice things happen on the railway pt 1:
This wee girl was spotted by train drivers curled up and terrified in between the rails of our electrified railway, with trains passing over her head.
An @SW_Help driver stopped his train and picked the smol furry up... /1
Our apologies to @SW_Help customers delayed by a broken rail at #Woking this morning.
We are going to plate this rail now, so we can at least run trains s l o w l y over it today, until we have time to replace it completely.
Thank you for your patience!
A massive crane from our friends at @Ainscough_ is now part of the #Salisbury skyline and recovery of the railway accident site has begun. Here's what is on the way for our neighbours and @GWRHelp and @SW_Help customers ... /1
At the weekend a phone was left off the hook at a foot crossing near #Tisbury ๐
We despatched a Moo-bile Operations Manager who soon found out who was responsible and put the phone back ๐ท
Remember, level crossing safety is really important - even for cows ๐ ๐
