FT's @JKynge writes my book #SuperpowerInterrupted is "excellent" and "allow(s) the reader — and the next US administration — to prepare for what China may do next." Thanks!
I hear again & again how effective the Chinese state is. That's a myth. Some get that idea because of China's rapid growth in recent decades & the pace of infrastructure development. But both are misleading. MORE
China doesn’t recognize the so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally set by India and firmly opposes the recent visit of #India's vice president @MVenkaiahNaidu to the area: Chinese FM spokesperson Zhao Lijian. The area is called Zangnan in China.
I think Xi Jinping should watch “Hamilton.” That would be a good starting point to help him figure out how his China lost nearly every friend it had in Washington. 1/6
The basic flaw in Beijing’s geopolitical strategy is that it is turning against China’s main economic partners (US & EU) in favor of politically similar states (Russia & Iran) that cannot and will never replace the economic losses created by the shift.
What's getting lose in the debate about Pelosi's Taiwan trip is that it's China's leaders who are shooting missile's around & destabilizing the region. No one is making them do this. It's their choice & its not their only option.
Anyone who thinks the "media" in the US is a problem, I suggest you live here in China where there is no free press & see the consequences: no open debate on anything, no criticism of govt or its leaders, no check on state power. Americans don't appreciate the rights they have
I think "Mulan" will prove the end of Hollywood's attempts to work with China or even make China-friendly movies. It's become too much of a minefield. Trying to make China movies never made sense anyway when US studios could just cash in on their usual blockbusters.
Beijing's approach to Hong Kong shows better than any other aspect of policy how the Chinese leadership has shifted away from economic pragmatism and toward political & ideological control. 1/4
I think the US withdrawal of HK's special treatment as separate from China is probably inevitable. China can't eat Hong Kong and have its cake too. reuters.com/article/us-hon…
