Absolutely have to call-out Isobel Oakeshott. To say benefit claimants are 'parasites', sit on the sofa, drive their 'free motability' is completely outrageous. At @scope we call out ableism. Call out discrimination. And to not let language like this go unchecked. Shame.

Being disabled in the UK comes with an unfair price tag. PIP is there to help many disabled people manage this price tag. Ripping PIP away, making it harder to claim or cutting it will have a significant negative impact on hundreds of thousands of disabled lives.

We @scope alongside @TrussellUK @sensecharity @jrf_uk @CitizensAdvice and many others have written to the Chancellor today to set out our opposition to rumoured cuts Disabled people’s lives are not to blame for the country’s economic woes independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Some facts about #PIP 1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit 2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim" 3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful 4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.

Rumoured big cuts to disability benefits coming. Tightening eligibility and stricter conditions to engage. We @scope will campaign to make sure disabled people do not become the scapegoat of government (Note this is all rumoured not confirmed) thetimes.com/article/ee60ba…

A cursory glance at the 133k total vacancies on the DWP job site this morning suggests 0.5% (700) are 'home-working' or 'work from home' with no office requirements. Less than 100 are part-time. Where are these magic jobs going to come from?
Disabled people must work from home to do ‘their duty’, says UK minister

Lots of response to this post. To clear a few things up - Half of claims for PIP are turned down. It is in no way “easy to get” or “free money” - 40% of UC claimants are in work. And I’m pretty sure there are better ways to respond than just calling me a ‘sp****c’?!

We’ve contacted every MP today to warn of the impact of such huge potential cuts. We’ve also reminded every MP that PIP is not an out of work benefit. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…
Screenshot of times article which explains the charity Scope has briefed every Map today about benefit cuts. And saying the charity has made clear PIP is not related to employment status.

    Replying to @Jamestaylor2 and @scope
Benefits barely cover the basics and the essentials. To suggest people are living a life of luxury is a lie.

🚨journalists and commentators🚨 Repeat: PIP is NOT an unemployment benefit Disabled people IN work can claim PIP. It is there to reflect the inequality disabled face in society

Nadia is right. Disabled people have not crashed our economy and cutting our benefits is not the way to fix it. Day in and out @scope we support disabled people who are struggling to make ends meet. Further cuts is going to make the situation worse not better.

"I can't look my constituents in the eye. I can't look my mum in the eye and support this." Labour MP Nadia Whittome tells @JustinOnWeb her party are getting welfare reform 'badly wrong' as changes to the system are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. #R4Today

Just saying “we want less sickness and more work” won’t make it true. We have to 💷Invest in employment support and improve trust. ✅Recognise some people can’t work. And that is not their fault. 🔧Fix public services to support people properly
