‼️Extra cost of being disabled in UK to rise by almost 12% in five years ‼️
The new @scope Disability Price Tag published today
Cuts to PIP will leave disabled people with no financial support to live independently
Absolutely have to call-out Isobel Oakeshott.
To say benefit claimants are 'parasites', sit on the sofa, drive their 'free motability' is completely outrageous.
At @scope we call out ableism. Call out discrimination. And to not let language like this go unchecked.
Shame.
Being disabled in the UK comes with an unfair price tag.
PIP is there to help many disabled people manage this price tag.
Ripping PIP away, making it harder to claim or cutting it will have a significant negative impact on hundreds of thousands of disabled lives.
Some facts about #PIP
1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit
2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim"
3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful
4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.
Rumoured big cuts to disability benefits coming. Tightening eligibility and stricter conditions to engage.
We @scope will campaign to make sure disabled people do not become the scapegoat of government
(Note this is all rumoured not confirmed)

A cursory glance at the 133k total vacancies on the DWP job site this morning suggests 0.5% (700) are 'home-working' or 'work from home' with no office requirements. Less than 100 are part-time.
Where are these magic jobs going to come from?
Lots of response to this post.
To clear a few things up
- Half of claims for PIP are turned down. It is in no way “easy to get” or “free money”
- 40% of UC claimants are in work.
And I’m pretty sure there are better ways to respond than just calling me a ‘sp****c’?!

We’ve contacted every MP today to warn of the impact of such huge potential cuts.
We’ve also reminded every MP that PIP is not an out of work benefit.

Repeat:
PIP is NOT an unemployment benefit
Disabled people IN work can claim PIP.
It is there to reflect the inequality disabled face in society
Nadia is right. Disabled people have not crashed our economy and cutting our benefits is not the way to fix it.
Day in and out @scope we support disabled people who are struggling to make ends meet. Further cuts is going to make the situation worse not better.
"I can't look my constituents in the eye. I can't look my mum in the eye and support this."
Labour MP Nadia Whittome tells @JustinOnWeb her party are getting welfare reform 'badly wrong' as changes to the system are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
