2026 Campaign Goal: $100,000 to support local news reporting

Your decisions deserve

trusted local news.

Help the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin sustain education reporting and community coverage that keeps the Valley informed.

Why This Matters

You make big decisions every day — about your health, your safety, your children's education. But you make smaller decisions, too. Where to eat. Things to do with the kids. Which community festivals to check out this weekend.

Whether they're big or small, to make informed decisions, you need trusted local news and information.

That's where we come in.

We're the Yakima Herald-Republic. We provide timely, fact-based reporting that helps you lead your life to the fullest in the Yakima Valley. But to continue that coverage, we need your support.

To be more specific, we need your help to sustain our education reporting and the community news and information we provide in Explore.

Two beats. Two reporters. One community.
Your donation supports local reporting in the Yakima Valley.

Stories that make a difference
It’s hard to imagine a topic more important than local education.

You deserve to know if your kids are safe, if their schools are teaching them effectively, and if your tax money is being put to good use.

That’s why we partnered with Report for America to bring on an education reporter, Alexander Banks, in July 2025. RFA pays half his salary and asks us to fund the rest through community support. Here are a few examples of his work so far:
Sometimes people say there's no good news in the paper.

Explore is a section full of uplifting stories and useful information. It's where the Valley comes together — filled with informative, upbeat features about places to go and things to do, food columns, personal essays, calendars, and book reviews.

The Yakima Valley is a big place, filled with remarkable characters who make great stories. Without Explore, you'd probably never know about them.
