Big Spring Region
In 1810 there was a colony of twenty families led by Cornelius Hall, that settled in the Big Spring region of Crawford County, Indiana. Just who the nineteen other families were is not now known. A short time later a group came from North Carolina and settled west of this group. This group contained the names of ARCHIBALD SLOAN, a Revolutionary War Soldier, David Stewart a Christian Minister, Martin H. Tucker with his brothers, David H., and Fountain. Settling in the same region were the Rev. John Condra and the Gott family.[3]
Revolutionary War Service
Archibald, if born in 1766, would have been very young to serve in the Revolutionary War. Never the less, there are records of Archibalds service, as follows:
- Service: Sep. 1780, a Lieutenant under Capt. John Brandon. From Rowan County. 1/26/1781, a Lieutenant under Capt. Joseph Sharpe. aka Archibald Sloane.[4]
