The Texas Project exists to preserve and improve the profiles of Texans and of people whose lives, service, leadership, or legacy helped shape Texas and its people. Project members work to ensure Texas-related profiles are accurate, well sourced, and grounded in historical context, including individuals connected to Texas through service, governance, conflict, community building, culture, or lasting impact. Through careful research, collaboration, and stewardship, the Texas Project helps safeguard Texas history and the stories of Texans for future generations.

Texas Project Stickers
A sticker is placed under the heading ==Biography== on a profile and by design it will appear on the right side of the page.
{{Texas Sticker|born in Texas}} is used when born in Texas; displays as:- - {{Texas Sticker|born in Texas}} can be modified to add birth county or city before the word Texas.
{{Texas Sticker}} is used for deceased; displays as:
Texas Project Managed Profiles
Profile Management exists to support collaboration on profiles where the nature of the work requires broader coordination and careful decision-making. This includes profiles of Texans who were born, lived, or died in the state and who are historically significant, widely shared, or potentially controversial. Such profiles often involve complex sourcing, differing interpretations, or heightened visibility, and benefit from structured collaboration to maintain accuracy, neutrality, and consistency with WikiTree standards.
The Texas Project Managed Profiles Team evaluates profiles to determine whether project management is appropriate, and only rarely whether project protection is necessary.
Significant Texas Profiles
There are two groups of Texas profiles which are important to the Texas Project and WikiTree – 5-Star Texas Profiles and Texas Notables Profiles. Often these profiles are viewed because of internet searches. It may be the viewer’s first introduction to WikiTree. These profiles should be the best.
The Data Doctor Suggestions list for these groups is linked on the Texas Project Data Doctors Team page.
Texas Notables Profiles
Texas profiles should include a Notability Statement when the person is listed on:
- Wikipedia or meets Wikipedia's guidelines for having a page
- Texas State Historical Assoc Handbook of Texas
- Legends of America - Historic Texas People
As of April 2026, designate a qualified notable by including a Notability Statement directly beneath the Biography header and above any profile stickers or text.
Sample Notability Statement Coding:
{{Notability
|category=Texas
|text=Sam Houston was a central figure in the founding of the Republic of Texas, serving as its first and third president and leading Texian forces to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836
}}
- Hint: entering "Texas" for the category will generate the correct full category.
On Sam Houston's profile the statement will display as:
==Biography==
See Help:Notability Statements for more information.
Do not add the {{Notables Sticker}} or any of its variations to profiles.
Important: Only remove or replace a notables sticker if other changes are made to the profile.
5-Star Texas Profiles
5-Star profiles are those which have been viewed 1,000 times in total and by 100 different people in the past year. These profiles are important as they are often viewed by people who are not members of WikiTree which can be their introduction to WikiTree.
See - List of Texas 5-Star Profiles.
