Lionel Henry Mander was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire on 14 May 1888. He was the son of Theodore Mander and Flora Paint. His birth was registered in Wolverhampton in the second quarter of 1888[1].

He died in 1946.

Lionel Henry MANDER, of Hollywood, USA; film actor, radio broadcaster, playwright, author and novelist as ‘Miles Mander’; educ. Harrow, Loretto and McGill University; sheep farmer with uncle Martin Bertram Mander, New Zealand, 1908; pioneer pilot (Blériot) at Pau, 1909; cup for first official flight, Brooklands, 1910; acquired and built with C. Grahame-White Hendon aerodrome, 1910; free ballooning, 1912; Royal Aero Club certificate 31, 17 June 1913; served RNVR, 1915; capt. RASC, 1915-19, WWI; from 1920 wrote, directed, and/or acted in over 100 films in Europe, Australia, and USA; was first to apply motion picture technique to talking screen, 1926; Labour candidate for Putney, Surrey, 1934; conducted own radio programme in USA 1938–41; member Fabian Society.

Lionel Mander was b. Mornington Place, Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, 14 May 1888.

He m. 1st Woodlands, Calcutta, Bengal, India, 21 Feb 1912 (m. diss. without issue 1922), Princess (Maharaj Kumari) Prativa Sundari Devi (b. Lily Cottage, Calcutta, 22 Nov 1891; d. Calcutta, 23 Jul 1923), 2nd dau. of H.H. Sri Sri Maharaja Sir Nripendra NARAYAN Bhup BAHADUR, Maharaja of COOCH BEHAR (b. Royal Palace, Cooch-Behar, India, 4 Oct 1862; d. Sussex, 18 Sept 1911) by his wife H.H. Maharani Siniti Devi Sahiba, sometime Regent of Cooch-Behar and Presdt. State Council (b. Sen’s House, Calcutta, 1864; d. Ranchi, November 1932), eldest dau. of Babu Keshab Chandra SEN, Bengali social reformer and preacher. He petitioned for divorce on grounds of her adultery with Reginald de Beer.[2], granted 24 May 1922. [3]

He m. 2nd (m. div.) Kathleen Bernadette (b. Sydney, NSW, Australia, 21 March 1900), dau. of William G. FRENCH, of Sydney, NSW. Their marriage was registered in Thanet, Kent in the third quarter of 1926[4]. Lionel d. Brown Derby restaurant, Los Angeles, USA, 7 Feb 1946, and was bur. Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, Vancouver. He had issue, one son, by his second wife.
