Biography
From: THE DESCENDANTS OF EZEKIEL MAINE, by Algernon Aikin Aspinwall, pp 5.
- "Jeremiah lived at Stonington CT where he died November 11, 1727. He married at Stonington, October 11, 1699, Mrs. Ruth Brown, a widow, much search has failed to disclose her maiden name or the name of her first husband. When the first Church was formed in what is now North Stonington, Jeremiah Maine and his wife Ruth were among the first members. In his will dated February 24, 1726, Jeremiah names his three youngest sons, Nathaniel, John and Peter; his three eldest daughters not named, he names his youngest daughter, Hepzibah, and names his wife, Ruth as sole executor. He also gives five shillings to Ruth, wife of John Butler. She was Ruth Brown, daughter, of his wife by her first marriage."
Jeremiah Main died on 11 Nov 1727 at Stonington, Connecticut, and was interred at the Wequetequock Burial Ground, Stonington [1].

Research Notes
Identity of Jeremiah's spouse is uncertain. She may have been Ruth (Ayer, or Ayers) possibly a daughter of Nathaniel Ayer (1655-1717) and Ann (Swan) Ayer (1658-). She probably was a widow of (unknown) Brown at her marriage to Jeremiah Main.
She probably was not Ruth (Huse), whose husband was John Brown of Newbury, Massachusetts. Ruth Huse was born in 1663 (thus 15 years older than Jonathan Main); died about 1695-1698, probably in or near Newbury, Massachusetts; thus she could not have been the same person who married Jeremiah Main in 1699 in Stonington, Connecticut. According to the cited online memorial site for the second spouse of Jeremiah Main, and its supporting evidence, Ruth (Ayer, or Ayers) was born about 1683 at Rowley, Massachusetts, thus 20 years later and of more rational age to have been the spouse of Jeremiah Main [2]. Notably, the later born children of Jeremiah Main could not have been from a mother born in 1663.
