Biography
Joseph5 Howe (Benjamin4, John3, Isaac2, John1) was born in Marborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony on 23 Dec 1740.[1] He is the seventh born child and fifth son of Benjamin Howe and Lucy Amsden. He married first, in Marlborough on 25 Feb 1762, Persis Rice, daughter of Abraham Rice and Persis Robinson.[2] They had six (known) children together; the first child was born in Marlborough and the remainder born in Bolton, Worcester, Massachusetts: 1) Archelaus b. on 12 May 1763; 2) Lovice b. on 13 Jul 1765; 3) Thomas b. on 30 Jun 1767; he went to sea and was killed a shark in the West Indies; 4) Persis b. on 8 Jun 1769; 5) Rufus b. on 29 Jul 1771; and 6) Lucy (birth date not yet known). On 26 May 1779, some time after the death of Persis (date and place are unk.), Joseph married second, Betsey Morse, daughter of Samuel Morse and Mary ___. It's unclear if the mother of his daughter, Lucy is Persis or Betsey. Joseph removed from Marlborough to Bolton in abt. 1765, then moved back to Marlborough where he died on 11 Feb 1828.
