Judy (Fowler) Kilgore was a wonderful member of our WikiTree community who has passed away. Judy (Fowler) Kilgore made many contributions and will be missed.

Biography

Genealogy has been my passion for 30 years. I was fortunate in that my job as a newspaper editor allowed me to pursue my genealogy interests when my boss asked me to do a genealogy column. These appeared weekly in The Citizen, a local newspaper covering Fayette and Coweta counties in Georgia, and continued for eight years. Alas, when the economy crunched in 2008, the newspaper was forced to give up the space to paying ventures. Fortunately, the columns still live on online in the newspaper's archives and I still get correspondence from those coming across them on the Internet.

I am Atlanta born and reared and attended college in Dahlonega (North Georgia College, now the University of North Georgia) where I received a degree in education. I continued my studies at Samford University in Birmingham where I pursued a master's degree in English. My husband and I enjoyed his military career until it was cut short by his death in 1972.

I raised, trained and showed German Shepherd Dogs for nearly 25 years but gave it up when I could no longer run around the show ring. I am now 81 years of age, retired, and live in Newnan, Georgia, with my daughter and grandson. They garden and raise chickens and I do genealogy.

With a broken heart, I have to tell you that Judy Fowler Kilgore passed away June 16, 2021. We lost a great genealogist and I lost a 2nd cousin.

Rest in peace Judy and now you know who those brick walls were.

Hi Peggy and thanks for the welcome. I still haven't explored all the facets of Wikitree yet, but when browsing last week I saw the Pre-1700 research thingy and decided I'd better join up since my research is now taking me to the mid and low-1700s. Slow going. Poor sources. Few records. Frustrating. But we will carry on.

Yes, the United States project will fit me well but I still need to browse some more on that topic.

There's a lot to take in here especially on those project pages so take your time!

As a small aside, consider editing your tags. If you add your surname and other surnames you are researching to your tags, you can connect to other members researching those names. The more of these clickable tags you add (20 max.) that include surnames, locations, periods of history or other genealogical interests, the more connections you will make and maybe find a few cousins! To edit or add more tags, click on the word “following” or use this link. This page will help you learn more about tags.
