Earlene represented the United States in shot put and discus in the 1956, 1960, and 1964 Olympics.

Earlene Brown was an American track and field and roller games athlete. She won a bronze medal in shot put at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.[1]


Earlene Dennis was born on July 11th, 1935 in Latexo, Texas. She was the daughter of Willie Dennis and Espenola Tillis.[2] In 1940, she and her mother lived in Port Neches, Texas.[3] By 1950, her mother had married Julius Walker and they lived in Los Angeles, California.[4]

Earlene married on December 29th, 1954 in Los Angeles, California.[5] She had at least two sons.[6][7]

Earlene was an Olympic athlete competing in shot put and discus. She competed in both events in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and in shot put alone in the 1964 Olympics. In 1960, she won the bronze medal in shot put. She also won a number of USA Track and Field Championships in shot put, discus, and baseball throw as well as winning the shot put and discus events in the 1959 Pan Am Games. She was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.[8][9] After she stopped competing in track and field, Earlene began competing in roller games.[7]

Earlene died on May 21st, 1983 in Los Angeles County, California.[10] She was buried in Lincoln Memorial Park in Carson, California.[11]
