Obituary

OBITUARY: Mrs. Franklin Hogue passed away suddenly at her home in Barnes, Kansas, August 29, at 11 p.m. In excellent health, her death was a shock to all. Born near Barnes, April 7, 1916, the former Fern Maxine Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Grant Cook of Barnes, she attended the Barnes elementary school and high school. Later she attended Kansas State College. Upon returning to Barnes she taught for a number of years in the local schools of Washington County. She became a member of the Christian Church, March 31, 1931. She was a devoted leader in the church and at the Christian Summer Camps, she was also a Sunday school teacher for years here in the Barnes Christian Church. She was married August 23, 1935, at Claremore, Oklahoma, to Franklin D. Hogue, and they went to Monrovia, California, to live. Here their son, Ralph, was born. After spending six years in California they returned to to Barnes where she taught school and became an active leader in the home, community and church. Surviving are her husband, Frank; son, Ralph; her mother, Mrs. Belle Cook; a sister, Mrs. Leona Jewell of California; and two brothers, Howard Cook of Colorado and Enoch Cook of Barnes.

Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery. Her untimely departure will be mourned by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. They were conducted by Prof. James B. Carr of Manhattan Bible College. A mixed quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Wesche and Mrs. and Mrs. Warren Clark sang, "Face to Face," and "Under His Wings". Mrs. Walter Barker was the accompanist. Pallbearers were Walt Moore, Dean Savage, Bob Moore, Orlin Oehler, Kenneth Cook and Bert Cook.

Hogue all of Vinita, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cook and daughter, Audrey of Fairbury, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fiske of Denver, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Oberhelman and family of Canon City, Colorado; Mrs. Dick Vogler of Peoria, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hogue, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taplin, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Larry McDonald, Mrs. Dora Irwin, Mrs. Lester Beiter, Mrs. Irma Funke, Mr. Elroy Oberheim, Miss Delores Kawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Poland and Debra, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Elliott, all of Manhattan; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cook, Lincoln, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cook, Valley Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sawin and daughter of Princeton; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Carmain of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brucker and daughter of Oketo.
