UPSTATE SUPPORT: Upstate staff and volunteers were proud to take part in the 25th Annual Mary Nelson Youth Day Celebration, joining community partners to connect families with health information, resources and support.
UPSTATE CARES: Upstate employees joined hundreds of employees from other businesses across the county to participate in United Way of Central New York Day of Caring. UPSTATE SUPPORT: Upstate employees donated nearly 4,000 items for Mary Nelson’s Back to School giveaway. Upstate’s Nelson has provided free items need for school to thousands of local students for more than 20 years. Dozens of Upstate employees will volunteer at this year’s event, set for Aug. 15.
WALK WITH A DOC: Early Sunday morning gathering in Syracuse’s Barry Park for Upstate’s Walk with a Doc with Dr Stephen Thomas, who discussed the ins and outs of bug bites, especially ticks and mosquitos.
YOUR CAUSE CHARITY SUPPORT: Team Upstate is out in force to support Upstate’s Your Cause Charity, David’s Refuge, taking part in the "Run for Refuge 5K Run/Walk.” David’s Refuge is a non-profit organization that provides respite, resources and support to parents and guardians of children with special needs or life-threatening medical conditions.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPORT: Team Upstate members volunteer at the annual Mary Nelson’s Youth Day Barbecue that provides an opportunity for children to pick up free back-to-school supplies and clothing. Nelson, a member of Upstate’s Department of Radiology, has hosted the annual giveaway for more than two decades. This year’s event is set for Aug. 15 at Meacham Field in Syracuse.
SPOTLIGHTING ADDICTION TREATMENT: MaryBeth Dunnewold and Dr Hesham Masoud appear on NewsChannel 9 to highlight an Upstate Foundation Fund named for Dunnewold’s daughter, Julia Oyer, aimed at improving addiction care through simulation training at Upstate. SYNERGY INTERNS: This summer, Synergy Interns will fan out across campus providing extra assistance to various departments while also learning about the careers in health care. For nearly 20 years, Upstate has welcomed Syracuse-area students in the Synergy Internship Program to campus,This week, the Synergy Interns were welcomed to campus by President Dewan and took part in various welcome activities.
COZY COMPASSION: Representatives of Bill Rapp of Syracuse delivered cozy blankets and heartfelt messages of hope to patients at the Upstate Cancer Center as part of the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative in partnership with Blood Cancer United. These blankets will provide comfort to patients during treatment and serve as a reminder that an entire community is supporting them.
NEED A BIGGER TROPHY CASE: A second Magnet recognition award takes its place in the Magnet Trophy case in the lobby of Upstate University Hospital celebrating that Upstate has once again received the highest distinction for nursing excellence and patient care. A RINGING SUCCESS: Three-year-old Everleigh Bylow of Ogdensburg rings the cancer bell to celebrate being cancer-free after a year of treatment. More than a dozen relatives, along with members of the media from Syracuse and Watertown, gathered to witness the joyful milestone and celebrate her victory over cancer.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT: A summer clothing drive made possible by members of the India Community Religious and Cultural Center, in partnership with Upstate Medical University, provide students at STEAM at Dr King with T-shirts, shorts, and light socks to help them stay cool this summer.
