i’m gonna say this to be straight from the start : i am not mentioning a single idol or group in this post, so if you are offended for an idol or group, then perhaps they are the problem
i feel like misogyny is so common in the kpop community despite most fans being girls / women
and i get supporting someone’s music when you don’t know a lot about them apart from the fact that you like their music
i was a huge melanie martinez fan when i was younger but immediately stopped supporting her when i found out that she was a rapist
i know what it’s like to love someone so much but feel immense disappointment and disgust when they cross a line that can’t be redrawn
and i would also like to say to any girl fans : you are a woman before you are a kpop stan
don’t ever forget that. because we really need to start holding idols accountable especially when they are not teenagers anymore.
that’s not to excuse teenagers for all of their actions because even as a teenager myself, i have my fuck ups and i fully accept it and should be held accountable
but if an idol is grown and has years of experience in their industry and in music in general, it’s much harder to forgive those “fuck ups”
because when do “simple fuck ups” become misogyny, racism, homophobia, etc ?
or will they just keep making these “fuck ups” because they know their fans will defend them no matter what ? hm, just food for thought
it’s all so boggling ig ? because you would think that idols, no matter their gender, would have the common sense of respecting women who have literally built fanbases and this industry
it’s sad that even in safe spaces where girls can be themselves and think they’ll be respected, we constantly have to fight against misogyny
