I started an Etsy shop to sell prints at the start of 2022 (after years and years of wanting to but not wanting to go through the hassle of setting it up) and thought it would be worth doing if I managed to sell 50 things.
4.5 years later and I sold nearly 2000 items on Etsy and another 250 on my own website (once I started to get annoyed with Etsy) including hundreds of custom prints of people's favourite books and external commissions; making merch for podcasts, packaging and bookmarks for bookshops and design work for publishers like Illumicrate. I'm very grateful to Tumblr users for being my main audience and loved seeing all my art on people's walls.
I'm not saying I'll never re-open the shop, but at present life is stressful and I was starting to resent having to spend every evening drawing or packing orders when the work day and then the second shift of school pick-up, dinner, bathtime and bed had ended. The US tariff flip-flopping, Etsy fee hikes, taxes and EU order issues did not help matters (nor did the followers sending me messages showing how they made their own versions of my work with AI and thinking I'd be interested!)
My current plan is to reopen in November for a month and sell some of my inventory of prints, journals and stickers for Christmas, then close up again, but if you have any interesting custom requests I'm interested in hearing them!
Thanks again and bye for now- any art I do manage to post will be stuff I wanted to draw for me, which is a nice thought.
