Quite frankly as a mentally disabled person I find it insulting that BHVR keep romantically pairing a woman who tortured disabled people for a living with the genocide survivor whose whole thing is hating people who hurt others for money.

I doubt they’d be pushing this shit so hard if she’d committed a hate crime against literally any other marginalized group. But if it’s against disabled people it’s tragic and understandable. Never mind the fact that’s the exact rhetoric used to excuse violence against disabled people in real life

at any dang moment the beauty in this world can knock you over and rearrange your soul and i mean that in the most positive possible way

i do think theres something sad about how largely only the literature that's considered especially good or important is intentionally preserved. i want to read stuff that ancient people thought sucked enormous balls

Time to take this post entirely too seriously:

  1. I often wonder if this is why you so commonly see the sentiment that we are in an era of uniquely bad literature, or at least that the fact that most books don't have artistic aspirations and are not aiming to be anything other than mindless entertainment is new. In fact what's new is the idea that everything is worth preserving (and also the internet making it easier to preserve it). The dumb artistically unambitious trash books of the past have survived only sporadically, because people thought of them as literally disposable.
  2. When I was in college I had a professor who was an expert on detective fiction. He had a longstanding beef with the idea that "Murders in the Rue Morgue" was the first detective story. He thought that it seemed way too polished to be inventing a new genre, and also that the whole orangutan business had the vibe of someone subverting preexisting audience expectations and maybe engaging in a bit of stealth parody. With the help of some student volunteers, he went trawling through old magazines and newspapers and found hundreds of detective stories from the early 1800s that just hadn't garnered enough individual attention to be remembered. This was because most of them sucked balls. He created an online archive of them, so you too can read these mostly terrible stories.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time on Project Gutenberg sifting through forgotten old fiction and lemme tell ya. a lot of that stuff sucks ass.

Tremendously comforting, really.

I thought about this a bunch while really high recently and I came to the conclusion that at its best an Artistic Canon is basically a species-wide communication network of people going "hey you guys should check this out it's really good"

i think its interesting how many things we rightly recognize as misogynistic when cis men do them (i.e., demanding that women take the effort to make their posts about women also applicable to men) are Activism when trans men do them

its so fucked that not only did they erase our languages and beat and kill our people for using them but they stole the words of important tribes and important people and used them for the military and for trees and for food and for summer camps. average native american name is seen by non ntvs as a joke or something to use or consume, not a human being

i like that ppl r thinking abt town names and things thats very good to be aware of but just to be clear this is actually specifically about other things actually, the things everyone but those looking up their nation forget about

sequoyah was the man who created the tsalagi syllabary before it was ever a tree

if i try to look for apparel or crafts to show off my chickasaw pride, i get results for chickasaw plums which is just a specific species of plum before i get results about human beings

others have mentioned if they google their nations name they get boot companies before their nations website!

theres a tweet that still haunts me that was about a Quirky Quasi American Restaurant in europe or somewhere that was being funny by being cowboy themed and their steaks were named after native american nations. even outside the usa we are nothing but literal dead meat for others consumption

"blackhawk" "apache" - fuck theres a whole wikipedia page for the way weve had our names used for weapons used to colonize and kill us and others!

yes talk about town and location names but you need to look farther than that. it gets so much worse, i promise

i know i'm just rehashing something that people have been saying about movies and video games for decades but it's crazy how a ttrpg having sex moves is widely seen as bizarre and automatically gets it described as "niche" while a ttrpg having rules for how to kill other people is so normal that players and pundits will treat their absence as notable in and of itself

getting many people on this post essentially saying "well of course, it's much more awkward to roleplay sex than roleplay violence" and like

  1. right, this is the cultural norm i am pointing out, defamiliarizing on purpose, and implicitly critiquing, that pretending your elf is fucking your friend's elf is weird and uncomfortable but pretending your elf is killing your friend's elf is completely unremarkable (save when the precise nature and timing of the killing violates some real-world social contract) -- you are restating my own post back at me!
  2. that said, you don't have to go full 'hector the well endowed and the elf maiden' when a ttrpg has sex moves. apocalypse world and monsterhearts aren't asking you to play through every intimate moment from foreplay to climax in exacting detail, any more than dungeons and dragons demands you lavish detail upon the spurts of viscera flowing from an orc's torn throat as his bowels involuntarily defecate. obviously the disparity is going to seem more sensible if you compare one of the least abstracted ways you could roleplay sex to one of the most abstracted ways you could roleplay violence !

now of course there are games that do care about the physical specifics of sex and want you to talk about them, just as there are games that care about the brutal viscerality of violence and want you to talk about them. and i think that rules obviously, but my point is that even at similar levels of abstraction, one of these topics is treated very differently to the other

“chocolate guy” is currently shilling for harry potter so i better not see yall post his shit anymore. anyone who engages with that shit especially for money is scorched earth as far as i’m concerned.

Came right up when I searched it, unfortunately

because of the new tv show. and it’s only going to get worse as we get closer to the show’s release. take notice of it — who’s advertising, who’s talking about it, who’s encouraging you to watch it. it’s going to keep happening. there’s going to be more chocolate guys, more nicholas hoults, more kiera knightleys.

take no shit. give rowling an inch and she’ll take a mile. i don’t care how much you like or don’t like someone — if you see them interacting with harry potter positively in ANY way, drop them. unfollow, block, pretend they don’t exist. scorched fucking earth.

and most importantly, be loud about your support for transfems. be transfeminists. be mean about it. fight with people about it. block liberally. download shinigami eyes. read transfeminist theory. provide material and monetary support for dolls who need it, especially the trans women of color in your communities. show them that they’re loved. don’t look away.

the prince has begun practicing curtseying in the mirror. which could mean nothing.

we have good news and bad news, my liege. the good news is that we now know what that curtsying was about: you will be pleased to know that, after several heartfelt conversations between your child, the court jesters and a myriad of singing woodland creatures, you are now the parent of a proud and joyful new princess. the bad news is that, due to a series of events related to the dragon-sized hole in her bedchamber wall,

I love the insinuation that the second the princess realized she was a girl and thus actually a princess, the dragon was there. That thing wasted no time. It heard "princess" and was like "I need no further invitation, here I come."

Gender affirmed by Dragon. Amazing.

pretty sure you’re literally the only person who understood my vision on this accursed post
