Barely a computer toucher at this point

it seems like in bdsm the "rewards" and the "punishments" look very similar. this concerns me a great deal, because it points to a system of misaligned incentives. if we're not careful, it's even possible that a rational actor could deliberately violate regulations, because the penalties for rule violations are in fact incentivized. one shudders to think of the consequences of such an arrangement

oh... that can't possibly be pareto efficient... that's scary...

Oat milk was discovered much more recently than you may have known. Like many now-familiar technologies, it was found by accident during the Apollo program when NASA learned what a zero-g environment does to goat milk.

"pjackk" was an experiment to synthesize the world's first "ethical lolcow" conducted by a team of researchers at the massachusetts institute of technology

when i was a kid before i understood the computer i was reading stackoverflow and somebody said "would it be sensible to imagine my code being traced by some sort of 'instruction pointer', branching back to the top of loops, skipping past false conditionals, and so on?". and at the time i thought surely not, it's too cute, there must be some subtle flaw that means we can't use this weirdly straightforward metaphor. i mean, what about when we go into a function? you'd need to recall where to return to, recursively... no, it's done some other way. the computer figures it out. and now i understand that people who don't know how compilers work need to have their bones made into pudding

I don't know who needs to hear this, but it's not okay to take a break, it's not okay to make bad art, pick up a shovel, burn that two-days-per-sleep oil, and help us dig this great sideways hole to the planet you can only reach by digging into space

[warm but audibly stressed voice] you are digging the wrong way. you are going to dig the hole in an incorrect direction and it will kill everything

had a dream i walked up to a food stall and they tried to sell me 3 takoyaki for $130 and i was so mad that i woke myself up before completing the transaction. idiot lost their customer to the waking world lol. charge less next time.

unconvinced i'll ever find "the vitamin" that makes me all better so i can get real work done but i do expect they'll elucidate whatever my deal was post-mortem, after which what i did manage to accomplish with my life will be regarded on the level of Beethoven composing despite being deaf or Gordon Ramsay cooking despite being british

U know people somewhere?

I mean I would say more than I “know” them, we’ve spent quite some time together and have some extra connections. And it feels weird to call them “people,” that kind of undersells who they are. And they’re at more specific places than “somewhere.” But otherwise you basically got it.
