I was trying to describe something that was pissing me off but xkcd already articulated it better than I could

I'm just like. I'm very tired of the hyper individualist cynicism that's so common on here, where so many tumblrinas feel very confident saying that nobody can read, everyone is dumb, most people are unwashed dullards etc. except for me, the very special tumblr user who's smart enough to notice that everyone else is very stupid. come on now.

One lesser-talked about aspect of why living in the One Piece world would suck if you were a regular person is that Civil Wars are hella common. This was only really touched upon in Alabasta where we get to see one almost happen and some dialogue in Dressrosa but civil wars happen literally all the time. Part of what the Revolutionary Army does is deal with them. The Revs being involved at all could also imply that the World Government is involved in a lot of them which wouldn’t be surprising because it’s similar to how in real life a lot of civil wars are proxy wars. Idk if two guys is enough to say there could be a pattern but it’s also possible that other powerful pirates get involved in those conflicts for personal gain

#one piece#love one piece worldbuilding because shit like this is constantly going on#behinds the scenes of the goofy pirate adventures#i prefer the theory that oykot was destroyed in a native hunt but hey maybe it was destroyed in one of these civil wars#i definitely think fujitora’s original kingdom was destroyed in one of these civil wars#would explain why he got so fucked up mentally he literally gouged his eyes out because of how much the world sucked#the one piece world is underrated in lists of anime worlds you wouldn’t want to live in if you were a normal person#the aesthetics are goofy enough to where it’s easy to forget you can just randomly be kidnapped by a celestial dragon and never seen again#or your island could be taken over by evil pirates#or your island could be wiped off the map by a buster call because someone tried to dig into the void century#or you could live in a place not affiliated with the world government or protected by any of the emporers#which most likely means you’re living in a literal wasteland where you literally have zero human rights#where you’re also vulnerable to getting genocided by the celestial dragons so the WG can steal your island’s resources#or as i alluded to in the post you could die in a civil war caused by doflamingo so he could make a quick buck#or like a dozen other things#only upside is maybe getting a devil fruit which 1. probably isn’t even going to happen unless you live in the grandline#and 2. chances are you won’t be getting any of the cool ones anyway#east blue is canonically the safest area to live#and even there you have world nobles blowing up a child#and the arlong pirates taking over several islands and extorting the people who live there#world government doesn’t give a fuck about how their member nations are doing so long as the pay the heavenly tax#your probably struggling/financially insecure in your day to day life unless you’re well-off already#and then a pirate could just steal your life savings#can’t rely on the navy most of the time because they’re corrupt as shit and also just generally incompetent#honestly i would say the best places to live are islands controlled by the nice emperors (shanks and formally whitebeard)#since then both pirates and the navy/wg will generally leave you alone#you are kinda fucked if one of them dies but hey beggars can’t be choosers
