Too Many Interests Find me on AO3: theknightowl

Bad Batch Fanfic Masterlist

AO3: theknightowl

One-Shots:

Echo comes down with a high fever he can’t seem to shake – not helped by the sudden resurgence of his nightmares. He ends up finding relief from the Batcher he least expects.

Crosshair is injured on a mission. Echo refuses to leave him and does everything he can to get him to safety, even if it means putting himself in danger.

Echo already has issues with MedBay, then an incident with a medical droid leaves him sick and riddled with anxiety. Good thing there’s a grumpy sniper around to watch his back.

Echo has a hard time showing any sign of weakness around the Batch – he doesn’t want to be seen as any less than the capable ARC trooper. After a mission goes wrong and Echo is in obvious distress, a certain squad member finally sets him straight.

Echo’s still finding his place in his new squad; the littlest things making him realize just how different he is from this new batch of brothers. When he notices something wrong with their squad leader, Echo takes it upon himself to try to fix it best he can.

Metal bones and freezing temperatures don’t mix, as Echo is finding out. He hates being cold, almost as much as he hates admitting to having a weakness. But it turns out Echo’s not the only one with an aversion to snow.

Multi-Chapter:

Ever since their mission to Coruscant, Echo’s been dealing with nightmares. Nothing seems to help and now he’s avoiding sleep. When it becomes too much to deal with, Echo takes drastic measures to make sure he stays awake. He quickly discovers he can’t run from his problems forever.

Echo’s been feeling lost lately; his best just doesn’t seem to be good enough. When a dangerous mission for the Batch goes awry, Echo wrestles with the possibility that he’s not the right soldier to fit in with this elite squad. He’ll need to overcome wounds both old and new if he truly wants to feel like a member of the team.

Echo’s always had a massive army of brothers to depend on. After everything that’s happened, he still considers all GAR clones to be his brothers. It never occurred to him that they might not feel the same way.

Echo hasn’t yet confided in the Batch about Fives. As much as he’d like it to, he knows the truth can’t stay buried forever. His new squad is going to find out eventually – he just doesn’t have a plan for when that happens.

One chapter per character and how they found out about Echo’s batchmate.

***NEW***Blind Fear (In progress)

Echo’s insides lurched. All the air left his lungs. His eyes went wide as he stared at the horribly familiar stasis chamber in front of him.

This wasn’t just any Separatist research facility. This was Techno Union.

Kriff. Maybe he couldn’t handle this.

Ahhh, I'm so excited you picked up Slow Down again! I hope you get so much written and it continues to be fun!

I'm overwhelmed by choices with words for your ask game, but I'll try this one: shaking

Avatar

yesss me too!!! the ideas have been burning a hole in my docs for years now and i can’t wait to just get it all out there lol

also WOW you either got really lucky with that choice of words or really, really unlucky. i’ll let you decide 😭

He could still feel the weight of Fives in his arms, his desperate, shaking breaths growing shallow as he struggled for a few more moments of consciousness.

….yay!!!!! 🫠

Another prompt…

Hunter with a concussion 👀

Avatar

I love messing with Hunter's head so let's get this one going :D

  • he gets maybe three concussions during his time in the war
  • he is told multiple times by not only his own men but also several medics that he is not allowed to get another concussion
  • almost gets the fourth one diving from a ship into water and hits it wrong and does not get a concussion but does however, fuck up his shoulder real bad
  • Hunter is a terrible patient. he refuses to listen to any doctor ever, won't take the meds prescribed because they 'dull his senses' and refuses to let anyone help him do anything. ridiculous.
  • his squad constantly tries to tell him to let them help but he just goes 'like you let us help when you're injured?'. everyone grumbles at that.
  • already gets terrible headaches on the best of days but is in excruciating pain the third time so he actually rests it is a miracle but also terrifying bc you know he's hurt
  • walks around in the dark and says he can see just fine while bumping into everything but at least the lights aren't on
  • is kind of terrified of getting another concussion because the third one was so bad he thinks the fourth might actually kill him
  • I have this vision in my head of him getting close to hitting his head and hurting himself after Echo joins and at this point he's heard all the stories and heard them brag about their biggest injuries so when he sees Hunter do something stupid and almost get ANOTHER ONE he is livid. I'm talking finger pointing and a hard set jaw and Hunter starts to be like 'it's not a big deal I'm fine-' but gets cut off while Echo goes 'sit down and think about what you've done or so help me I will kick your ass and I won't think twice' and the speed at which this man sits down and does as he is told is unbelievable
  • my extension of that vision is that he can sense how much it freaked Echo out since it's the first time he's seen one of them almost get hurt really badly and he'd prefer not to poke that bear right now... also Echo is intense who was going to tell him that?
  • not being able to use his senses? torture. not being able to help on missions? torture. feeling useless while everyone else does stuff? torture.
  • is grumpy the whole damn time no exceptions

YES. 100%. No one in that squad will admit when they are injured and accept help. A bad batch of patients, that’s for sure.

is kind of terrified of getting another concussion because the third one was so bad he thinks the fourth might actually kill him

Oooh I love this!! That the concussions get progressively worse and he’s secretly terrified of them. 🥺 What if he finally ends up getting another one on Pabu, and not being a hardened soldier anymore, it really does him in.

Of course Echo can be terrifying! 😅🫣😁 The ARC Trooper comes out to lay down the law!

I loved this so much! Thanks for doing these asks and putting so much time in to answer them. ❤️

Chapter 2 is posted!! :D

Summary:

Echo’s insides lurched. All the air left his lungs. His eyes went wide as he stared at the horribly familiar stasis chamber in front of him.

This wasn’t just any Separatist research facility. This was Techno Union.

Kriff. Maybe he couldn’t handle this.

Ok - first off, I read this within an hour of it coming out, and then again 2 more times, but it’s taken me a few days to have time to get my thoughts down.

Secondly…. @girloffourhouses ….I am freaking out 😂😂😂!!!!!!

I literally cannot imagine a worse thing for Echo than what went down, aside from him being re-captured by the Techno Union. This is, and absolutely should be, sending him way the fuck over the edge.

Ok but I’ll circle back to my screaming in a sec.

The way you built up to it was fantastic with great foreshadowing. His initial panic at seeing a stasis tube really tugged at my heartstrings. Then as they got trapped in the elevator shaft and his memory kept flashing to the tube I started to build up some dread.

Then I got all distracted with Hunter’s predicament (poor Hunter). I’m glad he managed to keep his wits about him though - Echo obviously struggling if he didn’t notice Hunter’s freaking arm dangling. 😬 Hunter is a freaking saint in this, as far as I’m concerned. He’s always so self-sacrificial with his own team - always looking out for everyone and making sure they are ok. He’s really the best big brother!! His obvious concern for Echo’s state of mind is also alarming - he’s really keyed into Echo’s mood via his senses so you KNOW he’s aware of how bad things are getting.

Then the explosion - OMG I am having my own PTSD after the first time Echo blew up. 😂😂 I was so worried about him. But I laughed about your line - and did some quick mental math - about only 5 useful limbs between the 2 of them.

Then I was like - oh shit! He’s right!!

Ok - THEN they get stuck in that room with 4 stasis chambers. And then Hunter forces them in. I LITERALLY CANNOT here…

Just… nope nope nope. Echo would rather die than be forced back into one of those pods, I am sure. I can’t imagine how hard he fought as a prisoner, after so much torture and abuse as the Skakoans took away more and more of him, to resist being shoved in that pod. And then to be locked in there for months - years even. Just icy cold, wires, a little window I’m sure he couldn’t even see out of, with his only connection to the outside world being through a damn computer. 😭😭😭 This… THIS is his worst fears come to life. It’s not dying in combat. It’s being shut back in an icy prison while his mind is being forced to spit out secrets and strategies.

No wonder he is shoved off a mental cliff and goes full-on flashback/dissociative here. I know Hunter is trying to keep him calm, but if I was Hunter, I would be scared shitless to be trapped in a cage with Echo right now. Echo (and all of them of course) is a dangerous motherfucker. Arc trooper in a full-on mental breakdown - not a good combo. 😳

And poor Echo just screaming… my heart breaks for him. 💔💔

Also - he better STFU or they are gonna get caught!!!

Also - I hope they can get back out!?!?

Also - Are tech and the others ok?!?

As always - fantastic chapter, full of angst and feeling!!!! I AM SO SCARED FOR MY BOYS. I love you soooo much for hurting them in the best way possible. 😂 Can’t wait for the next chapter!!

Ahhh, @runforrestr your responses are the absolute BEST!!  I love seeing your comments!! 😁

Yes!  Hunter is such a good brother!  I’ve always gotten the impression he takes his role as sergeant seriously, especially when it comes to looking after his squad – possibly to a  fault (or the detriment of his own well-being).  He and Echo are both having a terrible mission for different reasons.

You and Echo are both having PTSD to that explosion! 😅🫣

Hehe, I’m glad you enjoyed that line – I had to do the same mental math when I was writing it. 😜

Yeah…being forced back in the chamber is pretty much the worst thing that could happen to Echo, and poor Hunter knows that.  He tries to help, but he knows he’s probably broken his ARC Trooper.

I’m so sorry to leave you on a cliffhanger!  The next chapter is coming soon!!

Thanks again for all of your wonderful comments! 😊🥰❤️

if your still doing asks....

wolffe and a headache

Avatar

this one.... i may have gotten carried away with this because I was just so into it I kept writing and writing and I couldn't stop lol. I also made this very Better Men Than The One Before Us centric because that's where my brain goes :D

warning for mention of abuse before we get started. though very brief I still mention it.

  • gets frequent headaches and usually takes a massive pain pill and tries to get on with his day
  • his shoulders and back and neck are a mess of knots so when he's done working a tough week he ends up almost sick with a massive headache more weeks than he doesn't
  • his brothers have a 'headache support team' system that they kind of fell into doing when wolffe was a teenager. someone gets him to lay down (difficulty level: impossible) and someone else gets the water and pills while someone else gets a hot towel to put on his feet and a cold towel for his head. they read that is was meant to help the swelling in his head go down. usually someone tries to sit so wolffe can lay his head in their lap but he is terrible at being taken care of
  • he once had a headache so bad he was throwing up and his brothers genuinely tried to take him to urgent care but he refused. he spent the night in the bathroom with a towel over his head and the lights off. his brothers were so scared that they slept in the hallway with the door cracked, checking on him when he was still for too long. he really freaked them out. the next morning after Wolffe was feeling better rex was all upset about it and telling him how scary it was and how he didn't like seeing wolffe like that and didn't want him to leave too and it broke wolffe's heart. the only good thing that came out of that situation was that he promised to see a doctor about the headaches. it was a pain in the ass and expensive and took him months of saving but he got in to see someone and got a prescription pain pill that has helped along with some tips on how to keep his headaches away.
  • bonus: one of those tips is to go see a massage therapist but, of course, there's no way he can pay for that so instead he lets his brothers try to get the knots out of his shoulders and his shoulder blades. it hurts like hell. he grits his teeth and handles it but he is also in so much pain. Cody is really good at it and they both push through the painful bits to help alleviate the headaches. it's a whole thing.
  • okay backstory time for the AU so if you don't want spoilers don't read the next bullet point
  • something I haven't addressed yet in the AU is the scar on his face and just how extensive it really is and that is something that will get touched on in the AU. Wolffe is in denial about the scar on his face. so far in denial that he sometimes refuses to acknowledge that it's there. even his brothers avoid mentioning or talking about it much. the two times it has been mentioned it is always brief because they know he's sensitive about it and people staring at him. his brothers also get defensive when people bring up the scar because not even they talk about it and if wolffe heard other people talking about it he would be upset. so they shut down conversation around it every chance they get. after his dad gave him the scar on his face he got nerve damage on that side of his face and his eye and he tries really hard not to talk about it. he hates acknowledging how he got the scar or the vision loss in his eye so he never gives it any attention if he can help it. he pretends it didn't happen. his brothers pretend too unless they can't ignore it. because of the nerve damage he now gets headaches far more often. he does everything to stop them but even acknowledging it makes him uncomfortable. part of him is still in denial that he is losing more and more of his vision in that eye over time. he's been in survival mode so he doesn't have time to focus on himself which will, eventually, become an issue and force him to confront what he's been running from. that denial will be addressed, but it's going to take a long time for him to get there.
  • okay you're good now if you didn't want the spoilers

I'll leave you with a short little situation that comes to my mind every time I'm writing a very DadBrother Wolffe moment where his three unruly siblings are being very little brother:

Wolffe rubbed his brow, willing the oncoming ache to stay away for as long as possible while his brothers continued to chat around the dinner table. In the past ten minutes he already learned of a science fair project due tomorrow that he needed to get a poster board for, that he'd been volunteered to bring cookies for the class party on Friday, and that one of them was failing trigonometry. He couldn't remember which one was which now but all three of his brothers were being the biggest pains in his ass.

"Getting a headache?" Fox asked, leaning into his space and stealing a bite of mashed potatoes off of his plate. He sighed then pushed his plate closer so Fox could snag another bite before letting his hand fall from his forehead to instead lay flat on the table.

"I have three of them simultaneously," He said. His brothers threw their own jeers at him for that one but continued eating and chatting as usual. He leaned his head on his hand and listened. Another task added to the list. Another parent teacher conference he had to attend. Another story they told in the middle of another one. And yet, in all of that, he couldn't help but smile through the incoming pain. Their house was so damn loud, but he remembered a time it was dead quiet.

Loud was better.

I definitely thought I submitted this ask anonymously because I’d been asking so many…oops. 🫣😅🫠

I loved this!! I’m so glad you got carried away, give me all the lore!

I did not see that spoiler coming - that’s going to be intense to finally deal with! I’ll be looking forward to that story coming out.

All his brothers helping with his headaches. 🥹 And the three of them being so freaked out when Wolffe was really hurting. I love all the angst so much.

I really am looking forward to Wolffe finally having to look after himself and his own issues though, after putting himself on the back burner for so long. Hopefully he’ll have someone looking out for him when he needs to fall apart. ❤️

Thanks for always sharing so much about your stories! 🥰

Wolffe will get his time to shine but, quite like him in this AU, we have to wait until he is at a breaking point which... may or may not be coming sooner rather than later :)
