intro

aqua (雅嘉), pronouns they/xyr/she, adult hongkonger, likes from @/aquaeclipse. my ao3 is aquaeclipse. eng/中. i main the core lucas saga and especially the PT.

i emerged from the trenches of block people roleplay to be here, so this ain't my first rodeo. as a veteran of the trenches, i also enjoy making fun of and complaining about stupid fandom takes, so heed the discourse tag (for fandom nonsense) and the negativity tag and its derivatives (for "canon" nonsense).

i may mass-reblog from people sometimes. please feel free to mass-reblog from me too.

find me on ao3 here. permissions statement here.

大家好,我是雅嘉,我是香港人。我的母語是廣東話,也會說普通話/國語/華語。雖然這個blog我主要用英文溝通,我一點也不介意你們用中文(繁體简体也好)跟我談星球大戰。

content warnings

considering the source material, i have a blanket blog-wide warning for abuse, body horror, death, dehumanization, grooming, guns, injury, mental health issues, slavery, substance use (incl. alcohol and drugs), trauma (incl. religious trauma), violence, and other sensitive topics in fiction. while i have content warning tags for most of these, i may occasionally forget to tag something.

i occasionally post suggestive/nsfw content here, but it is typically tagged with tw nsfw, so feel free to filter that out while browsing. if you're under age 18, then please do so.

canon policy

  • i have a flexible canon policy
  • the prequel and original trilogies are my main canon; tcw (2008) cartoon is only canon to me in broad strokes at best
  • everything else, i may compile from the legends or disney canons (1) if they support the characterization/themes/symbolism of the main canon, or (2) if it's interesting to me
  • the sequel trilogy (and everything post-rotj) isn't canon to me, but i may occasionally post about it (1) if it fits the themes/symbolism, (2) if the art is good, or (3) if it's funny
  • tldr: my main canon are the six g-lucas movies, everything else is only canon to me if i say it is

discourse policy

i am jedi-critical (you know you fucked up when you somehow manage to give space jesus* religious trauma) + pro-anidala** + i am paying for anakin skywalker's therapy and slugthrowing darth sidious the first chance i get. is that enough for you.

my stance on the disneysequels is that i don't object to the new characters or even some of the plot points as concepts, i just wish they didn't exist to disrespect the PT/OT core saga.

(* tbh i have a whole thesis about him being less of a space jesus and more of a space adam storyline-wise, but that is a story for another day)

(** i do fool around with other ships sometimes but i don't seriously ship much outside of anidala)

Okay!!! And after a lot of sketches I am finally officially dropping my new OC: Mauvari Nareth!

A girl struggling with her identity as a jedi after surviving Order 66 as a youngling.

Theres already quite a bit posted for her already and you can use the tag #mauvari nareth to find it all!!!! Also!!

(You want to click to see the high quality drawing so badddd)

Any questions about her send through to the ask or pop them on the tag!!

Meanwhile, a few systems away from our motley crew, Ahsoka Tano was attempting to buy some Caf…

(I did the math, and the 8 year time skip means according to the timeline, this AU takes place roughly the same time as Empire Strikes Back)

what she says: i’m fine

what she means: the Entire Point ™ of the original star wars trilogy was that Luke Skywalker, the truest Jedi there ever was, did NOT follow the ways of the old Jedi and made his own way. Where his masters told him not to help his friends, not to be attached, not to try and save his father, he DID all of those things, all while staying true to himself and to the light side, using that attachment and love and care to do so. Pop culture and casual Star Wars fans all seem to ignore this fact and idealize the old Jedi ways, even while hating on the prequels, and in doing this they fail to understand the entire moral of the original trilogy. Luke Skywalker is one of the best characters in film history and him and his character arc and significance being so widely misunderstood is just an utter tragedy

Also one of the key functions of the prequels is to demonstrate that the romanticised idea of the old Jedi Order that Obi-Wan reminisces about in ANH was a facade and that the Jedi Order was morally and politically compromised, that the old ways were a huge factor in everything turning to shit

ugh i get ENDLESS feels about Luke's micdrop line:

I'll never turn to the dark side. You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi. Like my Father before me.

because Luke isn't saying he is a Jedi like the Order were Jedi. A Jedi who shuns emotional knots and strives for emotional neutrality. He is a Jedi like his Father, like Anakin Skywalker.

The type of Jedi Anakin was.

Even in ANH he doesnt say he wants to learn from the Order. He wants to learn how Anakin did it.

And he does. In time, he allows married and older Force-sensitives to join his Order, he embraces attachments (and even marries himself and has children in the EU).

And at that pivotal moment in ROTJ: Luke is clearing the guilt and torment of his father - he is holding up Anakin's dream: the dream of being emotionally invested, attached, loving, fighting for that love, and it making him strong and noble. He is holding up THAT dream, the one Palpatine used (and the Jedi Order to a degree in their fear) to convince Anakin he was weak, a failure. Luke is holding up that dream and saying No. No it makes me strong.

And you can't use it to turn me to the Dark. As Luke watches the fleet under attack and Sidious mocks him, tries to use his attachment to his rebel friends to weaken him, Luke uses his love for them to keep him strong, to help him resist. To not give in.

When Vader watches Luke do this-- this alter-ego, this dark Phantom must melt in the acid that is Anakin's psychological resurrection.

Luke doesn't want to be a Jedi like the Order. The Order failed, according to Yoda. Was blinded.

Luke wants to be a Jedi like Anakin was. A different kind of Jedi. A Skywalker. He saves Anakin's soul by showing him, Sidious, and the galaxy that great goodness can come from Anakin's way.

When Anakin is dying and Luke weeps, "But I have to save you," this is what Anakin means when he says:

You already have.

people who dont maintag: here is a full analysis of a scene where i write out what each character considered the situation to be, why their pasts made them react the way they did, and why the eventual misunderstanding was as avoidable as it was inevitable… #rambles #idk if this means anything so i wont spam tags ^^;

people who do maintag: i hate blorbo #blorbo #from my shows

Man, one characterization of Vader that I love but rarely see is: Vader as deeply religious.

Because from an in-universe perspective, that’s so weird! Vader and the viewer know that the Force is not a matter of faith, and that it does in fact give him powers up to and including the ability to accurately see the future, but the galaxy at large doesn’t know that and his fellow Imperials definitely don’t. I think the point of Motti, besides introducing Vader’s ruthlessness toward even his own faction, is to demonstrate that Force use is not just a known factor of the Star Wars universe.

In that context, Vader is inexplicable. Not only does he have uncanny and inscrutable powers, like those the murdered Jedi are rumored to have had, but he is the only figure in the Imperial military who seems to talk about his religion. At least among the military leadership, he’s not secretive about it; if he’s got to leave a conversation to hunt down Obi-wan, he’ll just come right out and say that he has supernatural knowledge which he needs to go address now. He wields a banned, antique Jedi weapon. He has several times invoked the Force while speaking to his officers.

In-universe, the general public doesn’t know why he’s like this! The Empire isn’t a theocracy; besides banning the Jedi religion, Emperor Palpatine doesn’t really seem to make a lot of overtly religious policy choices, and I don’t think the general public knows if he subscribes to any specific faith. Except for people who know what the Sith are, Vader just seems like an extremely devout sole adherent to a religion that is all but dead, its other practitioners hunted for treason. He’s like if the president had a weird murder pet who was a Catholic nun, only Catholicism was banned and all other church officials had been murdered by the government.

also like if catholicism was banned because it was DEFINITELY fake lunatic bullshit that so-called ‘catholics’ made up specifically to seize power from the former government, except the murder nun has just turned your manager’s blood into wine right in front of you and you’re both just standing there watching him die horrifically in the middle of your fucking office

This is excellent meta, also Vader-as-murder-nun is an eerily accurate analogy

so the currency system goes that 10,000 [unspecified currency units] is close to the price of a starship, a speeder is probably worth 2,000+ of the same… but which currency units are we talking about here? do they finally accept republic/imperial credits now or is tatooine still stuck with hutt currency like back in TPM?

i do like 3po strategizing here while everyone else is sneaking around the death star without him and r2:

  • posing as just two droids (not the two most vital to this whole operation, no siree)
  • telling the stormtroopers that "they're heading down to the prison level" when the prison level lockdown alert has already been broadcast across the ship
  • convincing the one guard to let them go by pretending to be taking r2 to maintenance
  • sneaking out to find everyone else
