NEW Community Guidelines Update!

We've had some changes and further growth in the community and have written a new pinned post to reflect that.

First off, here are the new rules. They're based on the old rules with some extra clarification and a few new rules to help make everyone's lives easier. These rules are also in the About this Community link (found in the right sidebar on a computer and under "see more" in the community title bar on mobile). [Please note: due to time zones and work schedules across multiple admins and moderators, the About this Community rules will be updated to reflect these new ones within the next 24 hours.]

1. Do not post things unrelated to writing. Posts about random quotes, personal blogs, and other off-topic subjects will be subject to moderation.

2. Bigotry, discrimination, and hate speech are not tolerated here. This includes (but is not limited to) ageism, ableism, sexism, racism, homophobia, and transphobia.

3. Be respectful. This is a community of writers. Flex your literary muscles in order to adjust your phrasing, word choice, and tone to say things with kindness and compassion, even when you completely disagree with someone.

4. Advertisements about businesses, including ones related to books, editing, publishing, art, etc. will be removed. Business accounts that make these posts will be banned. Posting paid opportunities from Literary journals and magazines is acceptable with a mod's permission. Ask first.

5. We allow writers to promote their work. However, please limit yourself to 1 promotional post per week.

6. Do not post the same material/question within the span of 1 week. Duplicate posts will be subject to moderation, even if they follow all of our guidelines.

7. AI generated content, which includes writing and images, is not allowed. It is your responsibility to know the source of your images and to provide the original artist/photographer/source in your post.

8. This is an all-ages community. Sensitive content including NSFW and/or potentially triggering material should have an appropriate content label, contain a plain text content warning with uncensored words, and be placed under a "keep reading" line break. See this modpost for more information on how to do this.

9. If your post is long, use a "keep reading" link so that people do not have scroll for pages to get to the next post. Your post will be subject to moderation if you do not.

10. This community is anti-censorship. As long as content is not against the Tumblr Terms & Conditions and adheres to rules #7 and #8, it is allowed. We will not remove posts based on content. As long as they are respectful, we will not remove critical feedback of said posts either. It should go without saying, but do not accuse other writers of supporting something just because they are writing about it. It is your responsibility to block people who you do not want to engage with.

11. Many of our members write fanfiction. Many do not. Any posts regarding fanfiction or fandoms need to be tagged with the fandom they are in. This enables people who care about that fandom to find these posts easily as well as enabling people who are not interested in it to filter them. If your post is specific to fanfiction but not regarding any particular fandom, please tag it #fanfiction

Writers, what’s something you discovered about your story by accident?

Maybe a character suddenly revealed a side of themselves you didn’t expect.

Maybe a “minor” detail turned into an important plot point.

Maybe you started writing one story and somehow ended up with something completely different.

I’m always curious about the things writers discover rather than deliberately plan.

What surprised you most about your own story?

In a different world what we call magic is real.

In a different world they see this as entirely normal.

In a different world many make books about a world where people could harness the light from the sky and the blood from the earth to make miracles.

we dream of eachother, often forgetting wonder for ourselves in the process

Mother, you said you love me unconditionally, but I don't believe you. You cut things out so easily. First it was carbs, then meat, then sugar.

You count things like a mad woman. Counting them in a different app. An app for calories, an app for you're steps, an app for your weight.

What is keeping you from counting my love with a food scale? What is keeping you from checking my ingredients? What is keeping you from discovering the nasty things inside of me? Are you going to discover I'm bad for you? Are you going to deem me extra weight? Am I going to be cut out?

Dig in the winter earth

Dig in the winter earth

among sleeping worms

and dreams of grass

lain low in the soil

deep, deep

below the snow

and the promise of the sky

thick with clouded memory,

all gray stasis and infertility,

reflecting the world

deep, deep

below the snow

as it stands in itself,

frozen with the worry

that the spring to come

will bring no flowers.

i’ve been struggling with writers block for quite a while now and it annoys me because i do have an imagination, i think a lot and what that results in is a lot of things i want to write about.

the last time i attempted to write out what i was building in my head it ended in me scraping the entire draft because i didn’t know how to continue it. i went back to my old works and read them and the difference of how they were written really bothered me and tipped me over the edge.

any help on getting out of this slump ? any media i should know about or that will help with clearing my mind ?
