(iva anon) ty for the heads up, apocalypse has been on my "to play" list for forever tho LOL i've been curious ever since i got slightly spoiled while visiting flynn's wiki page... seeing ur stuff just reminded me i have the game downloaded. also i hear the combat is possibly improved from iv which is nice
apoc is REALLY good in terms of improvements done to combat, there's a lot of super useful things like being able to reorder skills (both yours and your demons') which is a godsend for freaks like me who have to have them in a very specific order (i've found myself literally re-fusing certain demons in iv just so i could reorder their skills in a way that suits me) & there are also some brand new useful skills like magaon (i don't remember it being in iv) which removes smirk from enemies. some skills got nerfed though (like salvation, which i'm still kind of annoyed about LOL but it's understandable honestly) and they also removed that thing where if your entire party smirks your recover full hp+mp but i think it was done because you already smirk wayyyy more than in iv + your companions doing a full group attack also makes your party smirk at random. all in all i've found iva's gameplay to be a massive step up from iv which i was very surprised by because i already enjoyed iv's combat tremendously. also i'm not sure if it's tied to game difficulty or not (i was on conflict) but i noticed you get wayyy more exp for battles and quests, which makes you level up very quickly. i also never had macca problems the way i did in iv ((flynn voice) don't you have any more?) because money rewards for quests are also huge. on that front iva is really fun to play, it's biggest flaw lies in its writing. i was extremely annoyed by everything throughout most of the game up until i realized it's best to view iva not as a serious sequel to iv but rather "smtiv if it was a parody of itself" and then i started enjoying it. kind of. like it has its good moments but they are unfortunately hidden amongst a deluge of just (vague hand gesture)... you'll know what i'm talking about when you play it.
as a side note i also HATEEE flynn's english voice in iva lol i really don't like keith silverstein in general but i feel like it's absolutely a miss for flynn, especially compared to his japanese voice. krishna's english voice is awesome though, his japanese voice is very lovely but i feel his eng voice actor put their whole pussy into making him sound as sassy as possible which makes for some very delightful line inflections.
those are just my opinions though, i hope you have fun playing it. come back when you're done (or even before you're done) i'd love to hear your thoughts on it
Hello! I’m the anon who asked if I could use your art for an ita bag a while ago and here it is. It’s not entirely finished, but I still wanted to share it. I didn’t end up using as much fanart as I thought I would, but the piece of yours I included is my favorite Ulrich fanart ever and I couldn’t leave it out
helpppp the fact you chose that one specifically... i still think that pic is very funny & i'm glad you enjoy it so much lol your bag looks awesome !!!
Do you have any tips with getting better with anatomy and coloring? Your art is SO gorgeous i love seeing it on my fyp
hi anon, thank you very much! sorry for taking so long to reply, i wasn't sure what to say. i don't consider myself especially proficient when it comes to either anatomy or coloring haha, i would say i have a basic understanding of them both but no special tricks up my sleeve that i could share with you. colors are especially tricky for me unless we're talking specifically about color matching, which i think i'm pretty good at, but rendering and painting are not my forte, i don't really have the patience for it. i love looking at and studying it in other people's art, but unless i'm pressuring myself to color, i always gravitate back to monochrome inking. i just love the simplicity of clean lines, you know? i really enjoy doing lineart.
with that being said, what i usually see recommended by other artists (and what i personally found quite educational) is the morpho series by michel lauricella. there's a bunch of them on the internet archive:
- anatomy for artists
- fat and skin folds
- muscled bodies
- joint forms and muscular functions
- skeleton and bone reference points
- clothing folds
- face, head, and neck
- hands and feet
- simplified forms
- mammals
- anatomy for sculptors (better quality) (this one is not of the morpho series, and is by different authors, but the graphs in it are pretty extensive)
i haven't read all of them & even those i have looked at i don't exactly read; i'm a visual learner so mostly i just look at the images. that also extends beyond anatomy books; i talked about this in a similar post before, but what works for me is always looking at things with the intent to learn. i use myself as a reference quite often (particularly for hands), and i people-watch anytime i can, which is all of the time.
i can't really recommend anything on the color front besides similarly just looking at things, looking for art you vibe with, learning from and imitating others... i've saved some art-related posts over the years, some of which go into color matching, maybe you'll find some of them useful (please don't follow that blog though)...
at the end of the day being an artist is just having a meat grinder in your brain that processes everything you see, moreso everything you enjoy, into one big pile of goo that makes up your artistic self... and you have to nurture the goo by continously feeding it concepts and visuals... that is the only wisdom i can share with you. i can't help but get a little philosophical when talking about art because i struggle to see it from a purely technical standpoint, which is why i'm really bad at making tutorials or explaining my drawing process. but hopefuly you'll find my words at least somewhat helpful!
Since there's a wave of people writing how cool you are,,,,, I wanna say a great thank you for all your pathologic art. I've been rereading the danblock zine since February, and it makes me... feel... feelings.... It's so tender ughhhhh. It's like being hugged when you are very sad, by another very sad person. Тоскливо и радостно одновременно.
i really like that you chose those words specifically to describe the feeling you get from my art of them because i feel like "sad person hugging another sad person" is also all i ever draw them doing. speaking of which, here is another picture of them hugging
Just wanted to say thank you for answering my ask about if pathologic is worth playing a few months ago, it really helped me decide whether I want to get into the series or not.
I have been playing for about a month now, and I almost finished bachelor's route in classic. I really enjoyed the experience so far (literally jumped when Aglaya and Block arrived to the town like I saw celebrities-)
you're very welcome! i'm really glad you're enjoying the game, bachelor's classic route is my personal favorite :)
on a sidenote, you'll notice when you get to changeling route that it's very lackluster compared to the other two but i'd urge you to just power through it; lots of people drop it by then because it's very repetitive, but i find her story incredibly interesting, even if poorly executed. she's also the only character privy to a specific day 12 interaction that still boggles my mind 6 years later; something to look forward to for sure.
as for aglaya and block... i wish i could experience meeting them for the first time again... their introductory cutscenes are just so striking. block's town hall theme (uprava admin main) is my #1 favorite theme out of patho classic's soundtrack, which says a lot because that game is chock-full of really good music
https://x.com/borderlinebdsm/status/2048789110450450849?s=20 if youre curious here's the link ← also sorry i shouldve asked before i posted it but since i come from a private account i didnt think of it until i did
verrrry cool edit ! and don't worry about it lol. like i said you can do whatever you like
ive recently posted an edit to your art but i was wondering if thats okay? edit as in video with music, not a recolor of any sorts
okay first of all very funny of you to ask this postfactum. that takes balls.
secondly i don't care much for what people do with my art because even if i wanted to (which i don't) it's not possible to have real control over it on the internet. at most i'd appreciate being credited, if only because i'm very nosy and i like googling myself & finding my stuff in unexpected places, which i can only do if my nickname is attached to it somehow. i can't expect that to be the case for every repost though, and there's a certain element of fun in randomly finding my art out in the wild. i don't suppose many artists share this attitude though.
that is to say, yes, do whatever you want. i'd love to see it because it would stroke my ego but if i don't see it i won't die
Your megaten art is so darling. I love how you draw noses & eyes so much too. Seeing you portray raidou so cutely… and I like your Flynn’s a lot too! Do you plan on playing other megaten entries?
thank youuuu very much i'm glad you enjoy! and i do i'm just the slowest gamer on the planet & i really take my time with games (raidou1 took me 70 hours to beat because i kept taking detours to talk to every single npc any chance i had... meanwhile my smt4 playthru is probably over 100hrs at this point......) i plan to play thru all of mainline smt & strange journey & the rest of raidou & devil survivor & soul hackers & dds and also my wife wants me to play persona2. that is to say if you check back in 20 years maybe i'd have finished mainline by then LOL
hi, i just want to say that thank you so much for sharing the krishna midori outfit swap piece. i was beating myself with the same thought some days ago and just thought i was going insane and lost the plot, but seeing someone else also had the same thought made me feel chill a little bit.. thank you so much. heart -anon
you're very welcome... i like them both a lot, i think it's fun how similar they are while still having their own distinct character. when i first saw krishna i instantly became obsessed with him and my wife called it "the midori disease" because that's exactly how it was with midori for me lol...
Hello, I’m wanting to make an Ulrich ita bag with custom pins, but there’s not enough official art for me to use for it. Would it be okay if I made some of your Ulrich fanart into pins and credited you if I ever posted the finished bag?
yeah of course, all of my art is free to use for personal needs. you can print it, make stickers out of it, pins, postcards, get a tattoo, use as header/icon/bg, whatever, just don't sell it. i won't know if you do, i just think it would be a rude thing to do
Adding into prev anon:
THANK YOUUUUUUUUU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Me and my partner are MASSIVE SMTIVA fans and the lack of Krishna art makes us sad! You ARE an oasis in the desert and you do amazing art!!!!!!!
thank you very much ^_^ have more krishnas (& others) from magma
absoluetly adore the krishflynn (+vishnu-flynn) works, its heaven on earth its nirvana, thank you so much
you are most welcome... i was hoping my art of them could be the same kind of oasis in a desert to someone the way those 0.5 krishflynn fanfics on ao3 were to me... i'm really glad you like my stuff ^_^ have some more because your message made me really happy
Thoughts on Stamatin brothers??
i forgot to answer this back when i got it (sorry anon!) but i really like them both! their patho classic versions are obviously my favorite (i love peter's voice lines a lot, they're very charming even though the delivery doesn't really fit him as a character imo). not a huge fan of their portrayals in p3 (andrey especially) however i did enjoy that they made peter more unpleasant and hostile, really does make him feel like a bitter & depressed alcoholic lol. really sad they got rid of the very peterniil quest where you tell him that you care about him deeply though...
