Doug Jones and Danny DeVito in a buddy comedy about a couple of elderly former henchmen unwillingly dragged out of retirement for one last caper. There's a running gag where they claim to be the original duo that the "one of them is short and fat and the other is tall and thin" trope is based on.

Playing against the trope's conventions (but to the actors' respective strengths), DeVito's character is the talkative one while Jones' character hardly says a word. The former argues that popular media usually has it the other way 'round due to prejudice against short people.

Ryan Gosling’s career has just been one long quest to climb the Warner Bros water tower

that man has been trying to climb this tower since he was 16. he has asked multiple times, and every time they said no, but now he’s famous enough & variety was able to convince them to do a shoot on the tower. it all led here. it was all for this.

I’m obsessed with the implication that this was a coming-of-age ritual where a boy becomes a man, like a bar mitzvah

trans people don't need to hear your justifications for still enjoying harry potter in 2026 stop looking for forgiveness where you're not going to get it

if i walk into your house and see harry potter stuff, i'm just gonna assume you're a transphobe. no amount of "i got it from a charity shop" can save you from the fact that you value those books enough to display them in your home.

you can't just put the work of someone who's currently trying to eradicate trans people on display without being questioned about it, especially if you claim to care about us.

same goes for your social media, if you're willing to keep putting jkr's work on a podium and proudly talking about it, then it's simply logical to believe that you don't care about other people. it's selfish if i'm being honest, to think that your comfort matters more than the lives of millions.

and to the trans people saying that they're "reclaiming harry potter for the trans community"

no you're not, you can't do that while jkr and her neo nazi friends are currently trying to kill you. you need to let go or else your own community won't be happy to help you when our collective rights are stripped further away.

trans children in the uk are killing themselves because of the things jkr has done.

children are dead. children who should be happy and free to be themselves are fucking dead because jkr has used her immense wealth and social power to change laws specifically to harm trans people. if you really think that your fucking "comfort characters" are more important than the lives of children then you should say that with your full chest. go on. tell the entire world that you don't give a fuck about dead kids. that you don't have an ounce of empathy in your disgusting shrivelled heart, because you still have your shitty fucking books and your garbage movies. your comfort matters more than anything, doesn't it? maybe jkr will tell you you're one of the good ones, wouldn't that be nice?

SHE WAS FRIEND WITH EPSTEIN, TALKING ABOUT DEAD CHILDREN ISN'T AN EUPHEMISM!

HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT DYING THAT MUCH HAIR

HOW MUCH HAIR DYE WOULD YOU NEED

We are going to say it takes 3 containers for a foot of hair, along with the thickness of her hair. Takig in those that factor along with the fact that Rapunzel’s hair is approx. 70 feet (canonically), that makes 70 x 3 =

210

She would need 210 containers of hairdye.

That’s a lot. Wonder how much it cost?

Well hair die costs $6.99 at Walmart. Let’s round that up to $7.00. So multiply 210 containers by 7 dollars and you get $1,470.

It would cost her around $1,500 to die all her hair blue

“Why do Americans not simply overthrow their government?”

Well have you ever tried to overthrow the American government? Why aren’t you doing it if it’s so easy, wise guy?

Also given the state of the country right now the people who do take over after the smoke clears are uncomfortably likely to be fascists anyways.

The people in this country right now that are willing and crazy enough to attempt an overthrow of the US government already tried and failed, if you’ve somehow blocked January 6, 2021 from your memory. Somebody died during their attempt, actually.

Who the fuck says simply? Nobody is surprised that it's hard but from Europe it looks like Americans are doing next to nothing to end their fascist government.

No organising. No waves of new party members. No violence against ICE. There hasn't even been any repression and you still won't even fight back. I can understand the reason people don't want to put themselves in these situations. I don't understand why someone would make a post defending inaction. To me you sound like a German in 1933: "Yes the NSDAP is bad but let's not do anything against them because it might be dangerous to us".

Did you really think that would sound like a good argument?

People are organizing to protect their neighbors from ICE all the time and protesting both small and large things constantly. A lot of people and local governments are suing the current administration and almost 90% end up winning their lawsuits. Investigative journalists continue to do their work despite threats from the feds. We are doing stuff constantly. You just haven’t heard about it because it’s hard daily work that doesn’t make for fun and flashy international headlines.

But we don't hear about it.

I think that's the whole point of what @spackotutto was saying.

I'm in Brazil, and I only learn about the bigger actions because I have friends from the US, but I also hear a lot about how they're scared of the whole situation (revolution rarely comes without bloodshed), and I still didn't know about half the stuff you mentioned up here.

It's a matter of what gets to us outside the US rather than "simply"

Within the US if you pay attention you notice a constant stream of lawsuits and protests and investigations. Right now we’re preparing for the congressional midterm elections and some gubernatorial elections which could be huge. If we can manage to flip both the senate and House of Representatives to being majority Democrat they can block a lot of the more harmful things this administration is attempting.

These aren’t the sorts of stories that make it to international news but they’re happening constantly. New progressive candidates, voting districts being rewritten, lawsuits blocking harmful actions, investigations exposing the corruption, people delivering groceries for their immigrant neighbors.

These are all things that are happening constantly but they’re also kind of local news.

So know that we’re getting shit done.

We’re not fighting the US military though.

I'm from Italy too and can confirm I knew about all the stuff You're doing, also I went and did my best to spread the word back in february to not go and risk your lives in stupid acts of violence against institutions that are only waiting for good enough excuses to enforce their law progressively more violently.

Instead as @what-even-is-thiss specified, they need to gain time, observe, organize and understand what to do, and what their gov's is aiming to do, while they wait for the elections.

Chances are that one of Trump's goal is to declare civil war and cancel the midterms, and the USA citiezens cannot let that happen.

Best they can do right now is to stay under the radar, build communities and help each other, to make a lot of noise, is most likely gonna bring chaos and violence, and for now they don't need It

This is so silly but I'm watching a short video essay on sincerity in cinema and the creator is talking about how he watched Lord of the Rings for the first time at 17. He explains that he'd grown so used to the 'ironic' meta style commentary in the movies of the 2010's that as he was watching the opening narration of LotR, he spent the entire time waiting for the joke to come. For someone to take it all back with a zinger line. He listened to Blanchett describe and explain the backstory, and he waited for the other comedic shoe to drop.

And he kept doing it. Scene after scene.

He spent the film expecting someone to make a joke about how unserious things were or to break the fourth wall or do some other self referential type thing.

Now, maybe I'm just at that point in my cycle or maybe I'm too delicate in general, but I literally teared up hearing that. Straight up cried a bit. It is so fucking sad that sincerity and genuineness is being bred out of people.

People say all the time 'this generation can't take anything seriously!' and really, is it any wonder? Younger people have been trained out of it. You are no longer encouraged to be genuine or show emotion or be honest. You are actively punished for it. In fact, you are almost guaranteed to suffer for it.

That is so fucked up. I'm sorry to go on a bit of a random ramble rant but it's so fucking gut wrenching to see younger people lose that element of themselves. You can't express your passion without being told you're 'crashing out' or 'cringe'. You have to live in this neutral state of fear of perception, and god forbid anybody step outside of it!

You're told you should only consume and succumb and be ironic and emotionless and cool.

Listen, if you're following me and you're like.... 25 or under, let's say. Please. I beg of you. Do not fall for this rhetoric. Please, for the love of all things, feel. Feel and create and be honest with yourself. Indulge in things that make you happy. Be sincere. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Do not let this hyper-capitalistic, hyper-consumerist, self-centred, individualist culture take that from you.

Bleed yourself into the work you create. Live. Don't fucking let anyone tell you different.

This speaks to me to a a level that Is almost creepy, but thank you, I needed to read this, really.

Currently accepting myself for probably having some type of ocd, been in denial for years, and I actually feel lighter... Surprisingly I still like myself.
