1) Feeding books into AI detectors is used to train AI models, you absolute shits. 2) Sure, let’s target the Black author without a shred of proof. Your racism is showing. Be so for real right now. 3) This article is so lazy it could be AI slop. 4) Maybe profile the popular white male authors openly using AI or the “prompthors” saying they’ll generate 500 books by 2030. 5) 31 of my books were stolen to train AI - ever stopped to think that models learned those phrases from us actual authors?

The good (?) news: City Owl Press has finally paid out quarterly royalties to most but not all of its authors.

The sus news: the new royalty reports (which COP described in an email as “more streamlined” and “less detailed”) and are the 3rd? 4th? 10th? (idk I’ve lost count) royalty report system they’ve used since I’ve been with them is super vague and incomplete. And *once again* there are allegations of missing royalties too.

But everything’s fine. Nothing to see here!

For the umpteenth time, City Owl Press is late paying its authors their quarterly royalties. It happens so frequently now that it’s almost SOP.

It’s a breach of contract (again). Zero apologies (again). There’s some excuse about another “new system” (again). An email went out on the last day of the quarter stating payments “may arrive over the next day” but they didn’t (again). They continue to breach their own contract while hypocritically holding authors to every word (again).

You know what I see when I see these graphics sent out by cityowlpress? How little care or respect they seem to have for their authors if they seemingly can’t be bothered to create a decent—or god forbid, beautiful—graphic to promote these books, or check the spelling of an author’s name & other words, or to even create a mockup that doesn’t butcher the lovely book covers. These authors poured their heart and soul into these books and they deserve better than this. It fucking offends me.

To be clear, I support these authors and their books 100%. I wish them all the success in the world. They deserve it.
