I’m studying Philippians, and I’m wondering if the Christ Hymn in 2:6-11is not only a hymn Paul is utilizing that the church in Philippi knew, but one of the hymns he sang while in prison there. Did the jailer, who now is part of this community, hear Paul sing it? What would that be like when he heard it quoted in the letter to his community?

When we confess “Jesus Christ is Lord,” it means no one else is lord. It was a political statement when the early church and Gospel writers said it. It remains a a political statement today.
