I used to be hopeful that sleep would leave me rested that work would make me stable that people were good
lately though, I’m not so sure that life is kind
I’m only certain that flowers can be beautiful even as the forest burns around them.

Some ideas exist simply to keep you company while you're alive.
They're the thoughts you have while making tea. The connections you notice on walks. The questions that surface during conversations that make you say, "Huh, I never thought of it that way."
They don't need to become anything. They already are something.

As someone who often struggles to enjoy the world outside my home, I will always advocate for how incredible online community can be.
Here are three ways that being chronically online has genuinely improved my life:

1️⃣ Social Accessibility:
Living in a body that fights me daily means making plans in-person can sometimes be unrealistic.
So, I spend more time with folks online than any friends I know IRL.
This isn’t because I like them more, it’s because I can actually show up regardless of how I’m feeling.
This makes socializing something I look forward to, instead of dreading the possible consequences of “going out.”

2️⃣ Community Building & Purpose:
To many, having a sense of purpose built from organizing folks in online games might sound silly.
For me, it’s become a unique opportunity to foster a community of people who share interests, genuinely care about one another, and look forward to spending countless hours problem solving, working together, and laughing our asses off.

If someone isn’t online for a while, folks reach out to check in. We’ve got people with varying disabilities who rely on us to feel seen. We’ve all supported folks who have lost loved ones, moved across the country, or lost their jobs.
No matter what’s happening in our lives, when we login everyone is ready to laugh, talk, and remind each other that we’re not alone.
That’s something that’s hard to come by.
