The “new” Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro was re-inaugurated on 2 June 2013 with a match between Brazil and England. The famous stadium, that had hosted the 1950 FIFA World Cup, was given a total face lift in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympics, one of a handful of stadiums to host both. Brazil played Panama at the stadium on Sunday, winning 6-2, before heading off for the World Cup.
