Amy Adams And Javier Bardem Face Off In Apple TV’S Cape Fear

One thing you can always count on with Apple TV shows is that there’ll be a few A-Listers leading the cast, and their new psychological thriller series Cape Fear is no exception. Dune star Javier Bardem and Disenchanted’s Amy Adams both headline this dark drama about an ex-convict who seeks revenge on a married couple. It’s set to premiere on Apple TV on 5th June, 2026 — here’s everything we know so far.
What is Cape Fear about?
Cape Fear is based on the 1950s novel The Executioners, which has been adapted before, most notably by Martin Scorsese in 1991. Scorsese returns to produce this new series alongside Steven Spielberg, with the plot following the same rough premise: Amanda Bowden (Adams) and her husband Tom (Patrick Wilson) are both attorneys, and had a role in taking down a violent criminal. The vicious Max Cady (Bardem) was imprisoned 17 years ago after they represented him in court, but is now out and, unreformed and angry, he puts the Bowdens in his crosshairs.
It’s not long before their entire lives begin unraveling.
Bardem is no stranger to playing twisted villains, from Anton in No Country for Old Men to Bond nemesis Silvia in Skyfall, and it looks like he’ll be bringing that same energy to the role of Max Cady. Free from prison and ready to wreak havoc again, he begins a campaign of intimidation and threats against the Bowdens, which they’re all too aware of. As we see in the show’s first trailer, Amanda finds out that Cady has escaped and informs her bewildered children, who were too young to know the details of the case. As she reveals, Cady was in fact imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit- but is still a dangerous threat.

Soon enough Cady begins appearing in Amanda’s life and acting very creepily toward her and her family, intent on destroying her. But he’s also able to manipulate the couple and their children against each other, as Tom accuses his wife of becoming too paranoid, and the kids are unable to understand why the man Amanda represented in court ended up in prison despite being innocent of that particular crime. It’s not long before their entire lives begin unravelling.
What else do we know, and is there a release date?
Apple’s new miniseries is 10 episodes long, so you can bet it will expand upon and reimagine the 1991 film it was inspired by. The cast is also set to include CCH Pounder (Rustin), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs) and Patrick Fischler (Mad Men).
Cape Fear will arrive on Apple TV on 5th June, 2026, and you can watch the trailer below:
