Gloria's Safe Haven

“The meaning of the Safe Haven has grown over time. It’s a refuge, it’s a place of like-minded family. It’s a place to save yourself from a lot of the downfall that can happen when you’re living in your truth as a trans woman. Even though it’s not forever, it feels like a forever home.” - Gloria's Safe Haven Resident

Gloria’s Safe Haven is our free, safe, and affirming emergency supportive housing program for trans people in Birmingham, Alabama. In a region where trans affirmative housing is rare, we provide a vital lifeline—offering not just shelter, but dignity, care, and community.

We currently offer 15 beds in a co-ed setting. Whether you’re in need of housing or looking to support this critical work, Gloria’s Safe Haven is here to create safety and belonging in the South.

Pictured is our new 7 bedroom facility which will open in early fall 2026! This new facility will be a permanent home for Gloria's Safe Haven emergency shelter, and will also offer transitional supportive housing units offered for rent on a sliding scale. Support TAKE today and help us provide affordable, safe, housing for Black trans folks in the South!
