A Ticken (テキン, Tekin) is an enemy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's The Subspace Emissary that first appears in The Plain.

OverviewEdit

Tickens look like a poorly-made, giant, metallic chicken. Upon defeat, its "body" falls apart and reveals a small, yellow bird was inside, which chirps then flies away.

Tickens have two attacks, one where it flies into the air and then drops with an attack similar to the Bowser or Yoshi Bomb, which can bury, and another where it extends its spikes and rams the player. Due to their defeat animation having their body fall apart, Tickens cannot be subjected to careening.

MovesetEdit

Notes: The "d" below is a multiplier based on the difficulty value. Final damage is rounded down to the nearest whole number. The move names are fan-made in the absence of an official source.
Name Damage Description
Dash 14 + 2.4d (body)
13 + 2.3d (head)
Shakes, extends its comb, and charges at the player for moderate damage and knockback. Deals 10% additional shield damage.
Fly 8 + 2.1d (start)
1 + 0.8d (loop)
Jumps and flies upwards towards the player, attacking with its comb. The initial hit does decent damage and weak knockback. After some time it starts to struggle, leading to the multihits that are weak but hit every six frames. All hits deal slash damage and 5% additional shield damage.
Drop 6 + 1.8d (high)
10 + 2.4d (near ground)
After flying high up, Ticken will then drop with a fiery effect beneath it. When up high enough, it deals low damage and low, fixed, downwards knockback. As it approaches the ground it instead deals more damage and will bury players. All hits deal 10% additional shield damage.
Fall 10 + 2.0d If a Ticken dashes off of a ledge, it will deal moderate damage and knockback to grounded players beneath it. Deals 5% additional shield damage.

Name originEdit

Ticken's name is a combination of the words tick, describing what it does with its sharp, metal comb, and chicken, describing the Ticken itself. It's Japanese name "Tekin/テキン" seems to be a corruption of "chicken (チキン)", as the katakana te/テ and chi/チ look very similar.

TrophyEdit

Ticken's trophy in Brawl
Ticken
An enemy that looks like a chicken--quite a hefty chicken. But despite its weight, it can indeed fly. After taking a certain amount of damage, a Ticken will open up to reveal a little chick enemy. Notice the two bolts on its belly? And what's the deal with the four missing bolts? It probably hasn't even noticed they're missing.

TriviaEdit

  • Tickens are similar to Badniks from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise: both are artificial creatures that resemble animals and have a smaller, real animal inside it.
