This is why I am sick of hearing about “GTM Engineers”
The number 1 rule of sales: keep it simple
You can literally get to 20+ mil in ARR simply by defining your ICP
And knowing where to prospect to within a company (position and budget / authority)
And just doing the work day after day
-Sequencing prospects
-Writing good copy
-Making the calls
-Following up with prospects
-Defining your sales process
You don’t need “GTM Engineers” overcomplicating how to get their because they feel productive burning tokens every week doing busy work
I literally did all this by myself at my 1st sales org leading our business development team and brought the company from 5 to 15 mil in ARR
Business development isn’t rocket science
And any company doing the below exercises before they even have product market fit is laughable

PostHog spends ~$1.2m a month on marketing. Here's the line-by-line breakdown almost no startup will show you:
1. People cost about $210,000 a month, three times what it was in 2023, across product marketing, editorial, YouTube, events, docs, demand gen, and design.
2. Non-people spend is roughly $1m a month, up 13x since 2023.
3. Paid ads alone are $488,000 a month, the single biggest line by far.
4. Sponsorships across newsletters and influencers come to $228,000, with billboards at $67,000 and merch at $60,000.
5. We spend $0 on PR.
Being secretive about how we spend our marketing dollars is near the bottom of the list of our competitive advantages. Our code is open source and so is our strategy and roadmap.
Sharing the numbers is meant as a data point for other founders, not a claim that this is the right way to do it. We might even learn something, should we be doing something different? Let us know!

That neverending temptation to use bright, none-CMYK colours in branding
Discussion
When designing a logo or visual identity, what does everyone do in terms of colours?
I pretty much always go with colours that will work in CMYK... but occasionally I'll be working on something, perhaps something with more of a 'digital' vibe, and think that it just looks SO MUCH BETTER if I use bright RGB / Pantone colours.
But then my clients never have the budget for Pantones, and its not like we can do a short-run with them either... e.g. for a few business cards or posters or something.
And I dont like the idea of having really bright colours onscreen and dull colours in print.
Its fine if we want to just use either magenta, cyan or yellow but sometimes I want a really bright green or purple.
Sometimes I feel like brands are unlikely to want to get anything printed, but I feel thats unrealistic
Do I just need to accept that it'll never be possible?
EDIT: I'm more looking for alternative ways to handle it, e.g. underpinning and things like that

AI Mania Is Eviscerating Global Decision-Making — Ludicity
33 minutes ago by 1luke2
Over the past year, I’ve run point on all of our company’s sales, led the technical components of all but two of our engagements, and over the lifetime of this blog have had something like 300 catchups with professionals from around the world. This has ranged from people on the ground in niche service industries to executives at Fortune 500 companies1. Because of this, I've had a front-row view to our collective institutions across both the private and public sector undergoing breath-taking mass psychosis. This essay is an attempt to describe the bizarre dynamics that are currently at play, as I am in the rare position where my wellbeing is not contingent on paying lip service to madness, and to reassure the people trying to survive amidst all of this that they are not crazy.
The reality is thus: the people in charge either have no plan, or see no path forwards other than keeping their heads down. Not at banks, not at hospitals, not in our government institutions. The world’s organisations have been captured by people in the throes of frothing excitement, and saner people who now live in a state of constant commingled fear and frustration.
I. AI Investments Are Generally Total Failures
Reading this while working for a division that pivoted to provide interfaces for agentic workflows, only to discover that only ten users had ever touched the products we made for agents, only to pivot again to support for agentic workflows, which has a lot of competition because every company has to do something agentic now and there's only like four things you can do in that space, is bracing.
– An editor of this essay
Are companies actually seeing massive productivity gains from their AI adoption? Does any of this sordid affair make sense?

A point I frequently make when talking about chatbots is that their output only seems to make sense because we are making sense of it. And worse, we can only do that sense-making by projecting a mind behind the text, something we do reflexively.

A Renaissance Riddle: The Sola Busca Tarot Deck (1491) (Kevin Dann, The Public Domain Review)
52 minutes ago by donutage
Considered the oldest complete seventy-eight card tarot deck in existence, the Sola Busca — named for the family of Milanese nobles who owned it for some five generations — was the first to be produced using copperplate engraving. It is also the earliest known tarot deck that illustrates the Major and Minor Trumps in the way that has become the standard, with characters and objects depicting allegorical scenes.

[Ah. That WOULD explain why business is all over AI. There are many layers of management where people don't care very much about making the right decision, and instead care more about not having liability when they make a wrong decision. So if that's how your career works, then being able to say "The mistake was the AI's and thus I'm not liable" would be a very useful move within the scope of the very stupid and very wasteful game you are playing.]

"in AC 199, the ESUN government decides that the most dangerous threat to peace is the still-anonymous Gundam Pilots. The government demands that Relena identify them and turn over all records from their time in the Sanq (Cinq) kingdom. Relena refuses and is branded a traitor; she escapes, and thus lives in exile. A warrant has been issued; no territory within ESUN is safe... Meanwhile, the Gundam pilots do their best to move on, trying to live normal lives.
Heero lowered his weapon, and released Relena. She took a couple of steps away. He turned to face her. "Relena, I promised to protect you."
"Heero, I can't stay here. You know that."
"No, I don't know that." He frowned and moved closer.
She reached up and touched his cheek. "I’m the one who can destroy you, now. Your future. Everything you've worked for. I can’t and won’t do that.""
