Pavement Gallery
Pavement Gallery is a unique contemporary art space located on the corner of the historic Righton Building in Manchester, UK. Rather than a conventional gallery that you step into, it presents thought-provoking exhibitions through its large street-facing windows, making art accessible to everyone 24/7. This constant visibility encourages engagement not just from art enthusiasts, but from students, passers-by, and the wider public who encounter cutting-edge artistic ideas as part of their everyday journey.
Since its founding in 2009 and relaunch in 2020, Pavement Gallery has showcased a range of international contemporary works that challenge and expand how people think about visual art. From installations by Turner Prize winners to site-specific text-based pieces by conceptual artists, the gallery has become known for presenting innovative content that intersects with the rhythms of urban life. While the space cannot usually be entered, its exhibitions are curated to dialogue directly with the street and environment around it, blurring the boundaries between public space and artistic experience.
In addition to hosting prominent artists, Pavement Gallery has offered practical opportunities for emerging curators and students through associate programmes connected with the Manchester School of Art. Over the years the gallery has developed a reputation not only as a site for exceptional contemporary art, but also as a platform for creative growth, experimentation, and collaboration within the vibrant cultural community of Manchester.
