Products Safety

The safety of products placed on the EU market is one of the priorities both at the EU level and at the national level. Product safety and compliance of products with legislative requirements is also one of the priorities of the Consumer Policy Strategy 2021-2030, which was adopted by the Government of the Czech Republic by Resolution No, 518 of June 7, 2021. The main goals of the Strategy in the given area are:

  • the use of existing IT tools to report dangerous or non-compliant products,
  • to increase effectiveness of recalling dangerous products,
  • to strengthen cooperation among all stakeholders,
  • to increase the attention of market surveillance authorities to the offer and sale of products through e-commerce,
  • to increase the attention of market surveillance authorities to products manufactured using new technologies, IoT or with AI elements,
  • to pay attention to product risk assessment, especially newly emerging risks,
  • to support the production and availability of environmentally friendly products,
  • to pay attention to appropriate and transparent labelling of products, e.g., using environmental claims, other quality marks,
  • to draw attention of market surveillance authorities to the occurrence of counterfeits on the market.

Product safety is an important topic for the European Parliament that adopted a Report on addressing product safety in the single market on November 25, 2020. The Report emphasises the need to strengthen market surveillance of product safety, international co-operation in this field, the need to increase responsibility in selling products on-line, withdrawal of unsafe products from the market and improvement of standardisation concerning product safety.
