Electronic music began in earnest in Taiwan around 1996 with the emergence of the disco revolution. Subsequently between 1996 and 2003 a new brand of electronic dance music began to germinate from these early roots and quickly sprouted up in clubs and parties all over the island, although maintaining a distinctive underground flavor, separate from the mainstream, yet still hugely popular. In time the influences of Euro-trance began to lend a more psychedelic element to the nations psy trance scene and after 2002 trance music in Taiwan began to morph and change, as influences from hip-hop and pop music began to shape the direction of things to come. Once again the psy trance scene in Taiwan stands on the precipice of change.
