Very rare, found as inclusions in aurivilliusite, in association with mercury, cinnabar, and edgarbaileyite. Chemically related to tedhadleyite, from which (and from vasilyevite) it is indistinguishable in th-scale. Macroscopically resembles a metallic-looking sulphide or sulphosalt.
