Boolcunda Copper Mine (Wheal Friendship), Quorn


Copper was first found here in 1869 and was mined by the Boolcunda Copper Mining Syndicate (several small periods of mining took place over some 38 years) in two separate but adjoining blocks, in 1885 H. Spencer discovered silver near the boundary between the two, but it was found to be an unpayable lode.

SARIG Mineral Deposit Information;
"Boolcunda Copper Mine developed in 1899 on a show of copper mineralisation in host metasediment of the Tapley Hill Formation. Recorded production was 163 tonnes of ore raised of which 73 tonnes was treated."

Note: Not to be confused with the nearby Boolcunda manganese mine.
