I didn’t like the cinematography or the editing or the direction. It’s too shaky and too close and there are too many cuts. They also didn’t show some of the kills and the action. At least it has great music, casting and characters. The CGI at the end was especially goofy but the rest was okay. The sound design was fine. The story was okay, didn’t add anything but wasn’t bad. There was an uneven balance of comedy and horror. It’s my least favourite movie of the franchise. There are some great sequences when they let it breathe but not enough to save it. It didn’t even feel like an Evil Dead film, more like a Resident Evil one.

What’s with the jigsaw voice? Chris Rock is actually funny and Samuel L. Jackson is always always entertaining so I don’t hate the casting. This is more similar to Seven (1995) than Saw (2004). The hip hop version of the Saw theme music over the credits is painful. Apart from my pet peeve of putting comedy actors in a horror movie I actually didn’t mind this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not good but I wasn’t bored either. I appreciate they did something slightly different and not just more of the same.

It’s so sadistic now and only just there for the torture, it’s so far from the original. The story is easily the weakest, but the traps are fine. I just think I’ve watched too many of these films now. I don’t really like the characters, the motivation is absurd and I just wish it stopped after the original trilogy.

How is he going to shake someone's hand now? The traps are better than the previous but the story is worse, the story is not at all engaging and what jigsaw does in a short time is unbelievable, he's more like an evil superhero. The main storyline with the games is the most engaging but only fills some runtime. There was too much overacting from the victims and not enough acting from the antagonists. About as entertaining as the previous although I didn't like the ending.

The autopsy is horrible and basically only serves to be gory. The way the series is overcut and has such wild camerawork is starting to become annoying. I don’t like the new cast members and the story is uninspired at best. The detective stuff is dull. We didn’t need the origin story stuff but I guess it means we get more of John Kramer so okay. The traps are fun but not as memorable as the previous films. Pretty disappointing overall offering nothing new.

In some ways it’s better than the first film with better pacing and more happening. It’s also a lot bloodier but violence for the sake of it unlike Hostel (2005). It absolutely nails the Saw format, better than any other film in the franchise in a similar way that Final Destination 3 (2006) perfected that format. Excellent cast, characters and story. Sometimes the camerawork and editing combined made me feel dizzy. There was a bit of overacting but these are both minor issues. The ending is so epic I love it when the music kicks in.

That was some hot sex right there. I loved the story and setting and found it so engrossing. It’s so beautifully made with excellent production design. It’s quite a strange film, more of a thriller than a horror and probably the best voodoo film ever. The finale is excellent.

Billy’s father really is a butt-head. Such an insane final act with an intriguing build up. Really engaging characters. It reminds me of the Basket Case sequels but a lot better. Also reminds me of Slither (2006) but with less story.

This is epic! More like a music video or video game but with a serious story. Quick-fire praise: stunning cinematography, great music, very stylish, excellent casting, lots of variety, beautiful visual effects, engaging story, interesting ending. It’s so bombastic I wish I’d seen it at the cinema. Weirdly reminded me of The Matrix (1999). The flaws are so beautifully hidden behind style and noise, I love it.

Why on earth is this not a sequel, they set up for a sequel at the end of the previous film for nothing. The remake of the opening of the original film is so badly made and it would be fine in context if the rest of the film wasn’t also really badly made. The self referential Scream (1996) style meta nonsense is so bad. Ocean Navarro wasn’t too bad and the sets were fine but other than that everything is so badly made in every way. Please don’t make anymore of these films, we don’t need closure.

It’s taking itself more seriously than the previous at the sacrifice of fun and there is so much arguing about nothing. Too much happens in daylight and it makes the monster look stupid. It has very below average special effects especially on the car chase. The ending was stupid. It’s barely watchable. At least Gabrielle Haugh was entertaining.

This is similar to the first film but the casting is so much worse. The characters are one dimensional. The story just isn’t interesting this time round and the time between monster attacks is tedious. All the suspense is gone as you saw the monster in the first film and they show you a lot in this film and seeing it so much makes it look goofy. I really appreciated Justin Long returning even if it was only briefly. It’s not good but it is kinda fun because it’s so stupid. What made the bus windows explode? The laughably bad decision making is back. I pretty much hated the ending but the finale was fun.

This is so beautifully creepy. It has a fantastic story really well told. The acting is excellent with engaging characters. I preferred the first half but that doesn’t stop it being an excellent film overall. I especially enjoyed the brilliant direction. It’s an intelligent and thoughtful psychological horror thriller.

I was never a big fan of the Omen films but I can appreciate how well made this one is and how well it respects the original film. Probably my favourite Omen, better than Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981). I really like the cast and characters and story. There are some good scares and a really horrific hand along with some fun practical effects. The fire CGI looked fake. The car crash birthing scene was comical.

I really didn't like the centre framing, I found it distracting. The excellent sound design really stood out along with the phenomenal acting. It’s a bit of a slow burn but when it gets good it’s excellent. It has a simple story and I’m fine with that, it’s predictable but that’s also okay. It’s very much the characters that drive it. Really enjoyable, kinda reminded me of Hereditary (2018).

I found it really hard to engage with the setting and the anthology concept. It's more consistent than The Animatrix (2003) but with less story. It's really well made with fantastic sound design and a nice enough animated style. I guess I'm not really into animation but also I found this very repetitive and formulaic. I didn't hate it but it was exceptionally forgettable.

Hard to engage with initially as it’s hard to understand their characters. It’s very far from Predator (1987) which they tried already to unsuccessfully imitate with Predators (2010) so maybe it’s good that it’s different. Action heavy, lots of CGI, cool predator costume. Some funny moments. Quite charming and engaging but a bit too sci-fi to be a favourite. There are some touching moments between the alien and the robot. The action is really exciting and some of the moments between are fun, it’s just not that memorable, Prey (2022) was more memorable but probably not as entertaining. Everyone had a journey which was cool, I think it’s just the setting that I struggled to engage with.

I actually liked the intro, it captured the magic of the original but then it just descended into forgettable nothing. I swear this is the seventh time I’ve seen this exact film. It’s not worse than part 6 but it is equally pointless. All these films are the same. Just stop after watching the first one and save yourself time. There is some good gore and some of the ghostface action is fun enough. All the exposition and dull characters are what make it pointless.

Compared to the previous film this felt more like Borderlands (2024) or a parody. It had a far less obnoxious style and more accessible than 28 Years Later (2025). It had great gore but also it's horrible for the sake of being horrible without fun like Hostel (2005). It was entertaining, it's just not always fun. Great acting. Some slower sections. The fire scene was excellent. Much less about zombies now.

I really didn't like the look of it, really quite ugly. The first film looked gritty, the second filmic and this one ugly, so smeary and inconsistent. The editing gave me whiplash, it's sometimes painful to watch. Randomly cutting to archival content was so pretentious but thankfully they gave up on it after the first act. The gore is good but what's with the random freeze frame quick camera pans? Ruins it. Thankfully they forgot to do it as much in the second half. The CGI doesn't match the rest of the film. The night scenes looked bizarre. The story and characters are relatively interesting, shame it felt ripped off from The Last of Us (2013) and its sequel/series. So much happened when they went to the mainland, why would they even risk it? I found so much of the story contrived and convenient, nothing happens for 28 years then everything happens at once. Navy boats sink, people go to the mainland for the first time, a house collapses randomly, gas ignites, etc. The explosion was really cool, shame it had weird music ruining it. How did that pile of skulls not fall over when it was windy? I didn't like the final act. Overall some great moments couldn't save the pretentious lack of entertainment.

This has a very slow burn. The lead character is highly unlikeable. As none of the characters are engaging and the story is fairly uneventful and predictable I really didn't enjoy this film, it's not badly made or anything but it is dull. Maybe I'm not the target audience but I had to watch it at 1.25x just to avoid turning it off. The finale car chase was pretty cool but not worth the build up. The ending was massively unsatisfying.

This was easily my least favourite. It was actually a bit boring. It was annoying that they changed the actress for Evy, the new one is so much worse. The only cast member putting any real effort in was Brendan Fraser. It does look great and has some fun action scenes but it is far too long and not especially fun.

This is not good at all but it is really entertaining, it feels like it’s deliberately bad and they added comedy to carry the film between the mediocre fight scenes. This could definitely be a guilty pleasure. Because it is shorter than The Mummy Returns (2001) it is overall more entertaining but be aware that it has nothing to do with The Mummy (1999). Weirdly watching this made me want to play the original Assassin’s Creed video game from 2007.

This is worse than the first film but with a lot of the same elements. The story is the big issue, the great characters and fun entertaining action are still there but the story is a mess, repeating the first movie but also being really stupid. The CGI, and in fact the film in general, is pretty flawed but it’s fun to make fun of it. Bad in a good way if you’re into that kind of thing.

I really like this fun ride. Okay there are issues with the pacing and the CGI looks very dated but the cast, writing, sets and action make it such a fun film. The sets really are incredible, everything has great scale and looks amazing, so much better than these virtual production studios where the sets are screens with CGI in them. This is the best mummy film that I’ve seen and really enjoyable.

The characters make so many dumb decisions it's like it’s a joke. It’s not a bad film, it’s a generic slasher that is well made. I didn’t really like the music though. The finale was actually awesome although the sound effects made it comical. Probably falls into that guilty pleasure category but only really worth watching for the final act.

The opening scene is really hard to watch, it doesn't feel like it could happen in any reality. I thought Silent Hill: Revelation (2012) was bad and this is basically the same level. It somewhat nails the tone of the game but fails to grasp the point. I think the writing is the biggest failing. It spells it out to you like you're dumb. I like the sound design and it's visually stunning in places. It's not a really bad film. There are some elements I liked. It's just a disappointment, it should have been so much better. It did make me want to play the game. I wanted to hate it but it wasn't the worst film I've ever seen, it is very flawed though.

I enjoyed the film but I can’t see that I plan on watching it again. It is well made and has that distinctive Raimi style but I don’t like the concept, it really lacks engagement for me. It’s basically let’s make a feature about wild west duelling and not much else. Whilst this is entertaining it is so forgettable. It is well acted and has good characters but without a story it just gets lost. Perfectly average.

I really like the very charismatic and relatable new terminator Grace. She genuinely had some depth. But why oh why is Sarah Connor back? It makes no sense, she died like two films ago. Also she’s a horrible person now. The more I watch this, the more I find to appreciate but also the more faults I notice. The abundance of CGI is off-putting. I loved how Sarah thought that she would stop the new terminator underwater by ‘tangling him up’ in a parachute, so ridiculous. I don’t know, it’s certainly not good but it is cotton candy.

The future doesn’t seem as gritty as the first two films. For a film that has such rich lore and so much potential to depict life in an unimaginable hell, this is actually quite generic, it’s all so bland and grey and moody. There is so much CGI, it doesn’t feel real. I find it so hard to concentrate on this film. Why do they all have sore throats? I think this is the first time I’ve seen this film all the way through and it’s hard to pinpoint why I find it so boring. The action is good enough. Maybe that’s it, everything else that is just so devoid of personality. It’s such a pointless film, nothing changes from start to finish, there is no message.

Oozing with style, devoid of substance. This has occasional creepy moments interspersed with an excessively long photography exhibit. I don't like the characters, none of them act like humans and they're so unrelatable. The film is pretentious in the worst possible way. The more you see of the ‘killer’ the more farcical and the less I get the joke which is what this film is. Five minutes of exposition at the end of a film is not a good way to tell your story. In some ways I enjoyed the travesty of Slender Man (2018) more because at least there were characters in it. The music is good and the cinematography has a style but otherwise AVOID.

It's a slightly slow start but the film looks lovely, with really great effects except with a slightly unreal veneer. It's an interesting concept but basically the same story as all the others. To some extent it's candyfloss again but this time with engaging characters. It is better than the previous film by a lot, actually it's one of the best in the franchise, far less silly than the previous trilogy and probably on-par with the original. It's not boring and I even didn’t hate the mutant dinosaur in a similar way to not hating it in Jurassic World (2015) but hating them in Dominion and Fallen Kingdom.

This is not a dinosaur movie, it’s more like a James Bond movie. It is so much worse than all the others in the series. The cinematography and effects are much worse, generally the technical aspects are ‘bad’ for a huge budget film. It’s the worst huge budget film I’ve seen. Badly written, convoluted story, too many characters, more boring than entertaining. There are just too many issues to list them all. Avoid it even if you liked the other films.

As if dinosaurs weren’t enough of a threat, they added an erupting volcano. It’s funnier than the first film but sometimes I think unintentionally. The cinematography and effects look better. The peril on the island and in the mansion were great, the rest of the film was meh. It’s an entertaining popcorn film, nothing special.

I really didn’t like the first hour. It didn’t feel natural. It felt staged, rehearsed. I also noticed so many technical issues like the helicopter rotor blades stopping spinning instantly and the chroma keying looking a bit sloppy. I was impressed with the amount of rotorscope work they did on the petting zoo shot. I didn’t like the casting of the children. The final 45 minutes though was entertaining, really good actually, just a shame that the first hour is annoying.

This is the original high concept horror, long before the likes of The Platform (2019). I found this very engaging even though it has below average acting especially from Maurice Dean Wint who thought they were making a cartoon. The logic, maths and physics of the Cube is flawed, if you ignore or blissfully don’t care then this film is so much better. The writing and direction are excellent. I didn’t like any of the characters except maybe David Hewlett’s character “Worth” although that wasn’t a problem. The ending is so great. Probably my favourite high concept ambiguous horror.

This is my second least favourite after 2016 but they’re all pretty close except Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) which is easily my favourite. But still I enjoyed this one. It’s really well made. It’s hard to pinpoint why I didn’t enjoy it more as it has all the right elements. Maybe too many protagonists, maybe a dull antagonist, maybe some minor pacing issues, maybe because (apart from the ice) it’s actually a bit forgettable, I really don’t know. It’s certainly not bad but it’s just a bit meh. There are certainly worse ways to pass your time and if you’ve seen all the previous Ghostbuster films then you might as well watch this one.

I prefer the first film but not by a lot. They are very similar. This one is funnier. They both have the same pacing issues. This has arguably more memorable moments but suffers from the lack of uniqueness and fails in the zeitgeist. It’s enjoyable and nostalgic enough to make it worth watching, even for viewers that didn’t grow up with this.

Much as I enjoy this film, partly due to nostalgia, it is flawed and without the nostalgia goggles it hasn’t aged perfectly. This is mostly down to the gimmicky nature and the uneven pacing. It’s simply not quite as good as Back to the Future (1985). This is entertaining because it is unique, big budget, great cast and character all fighting ghosts. It is a classic and still worth watching, just not quite as fun as I remembered.

I’m not scoring this higher because there are some minor pacing issues. I love Coraline, it is such a beautifully made and engaging film. There are so many layers to the story and the characters are really interesting. The production is quirky which makes it more original. Highly recommended.

This is sometimes boring because it is a little pretentious although beautifully made with high production quality except it sometimes has a fake ultra processed look to it especially when outside during the day. There is a really long build up setting up the story and characters with subtle hints of what it’s about. You could easily skip the first 35 minutes and miss nothing. The great moments are really great but there are too few of them. The whole siege is great but it’s still flawed with excessive exposition breaking it up. It’s simply not as entertaining as From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). If you love a slow burn then you’ll like Sinners more than me. The climax didn’t really make logical sense to me, did the antagonist not think through their plan? The aspect ratio changing was deeply annoying. I hate that pretentious thing of adding scenes in the credits that add nothing to the story. The truly epic moments are wasted by a lack of story, similar forgettable characters and far too many slow pointless scenes. But the epic moments are so good. The whole music thing was cool but had no point in the plot, without it you would have the same film. Weapons (2025) is better.

Another film, another direction, this time more like the original trilogy but with a modern AI angle and without Charles Lee Ray. The cast is excellent, especially Aubrey Plaza, although she was less convincing when it got serious. It’s very well paced and I liked the writing and editing. It’s a true reboot, all the previous films are sequels. Shame they couldn’t work Charles Lee Ray / Chucky into the film as that was the best thing about the other ones. This is nice and gory, entertaining and maybe overshadowed by M3GAN (2022). The finale was a bit of an anticlimax, I preferred the tone of the first two acts.

I often get this confused with Urban Legend (1998), they are so similar in so many ways. This hasn’t aged well but it is still mostly memorable. The cast is great. It’s comparatively devoid of gore and violence. It’s even lacking suspense, it is the cast that carries it. It’s an entertaining film but not a good film. It is categorically a product of the late nineties, teen influenced horror. I prefer Urban Legend as that has a better hook but this has the better.

This is so very similar to the previous film. I didn’t like the time travel and the story was stupid. It held my attention though and the jokes are less repetitive. The effects and production in general looked a lot better. I thought the villain was cool. And the alien character Griffin reminded me of Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy and was a great addition to the film. Overall only worth watching if you liked the first two.

I didn’t like the Hollywood/making a fake movie setting. It’s not as entertaining as Bride of Chucky (1998). I actually really like the character of Glen. The characters of Chucky and Tiffany are really entertaining again. The casting is not as good, Hannah Spearritt cannot act is the worst but Redman was also kinda annoying. At least we have fun kills. For all that happens it is a bit slow and sometimes repetitive. I just didn’t engage with Seed because I didn’t like the setting or the concept. It’s the weakest so far but averagely entertaining nonetheless.

This isn’t bad but it’s conceptually flawed and far less interesting than the previous two. The large time gap is off-putting. It’s actually a little boring especially compared to the incredibly paced previous two films. The tight act structure is replaced with meandering jump scares. Technically speaking though, it’s well made. I really want to go on the ride at the end. The ending is anti-climactic and rushed. I enjoy Chucky himself as always but the rest of the film is a bit forgettable.

Such an iconic opening scene. Wow. Great characters, especially Chucky who is a fantastic antagonist. Great casting, especially Alex Vincent who is one of the best child actors ever and actually is the age that they are playing which is so much more convincing and engaging than using someone older than they are supposed to be. There are many great sequences like the car attack and voodoo confrontation. Also the finale is relentless and very satisfying. Great fun, great entertainment, excellent iconic eighties horror.

This is a very violent and slightly confusing Japanese film. It is about one sick little boy and one sick gang leader. Stuff happens and there are lots of people killed and tortured spilling lots of blood. If that is your thing then you might like it but I do warn that a strong stomach is needed in many of the disgustingly violent scenes. Not as comic or entertaining as Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991). Ichi is far more violent and overall less fun as it is really serious.

The sets and plants were amazing. It’s mostly really beautifully shot. The music was annoyingly catchy. The alternate ending would have been so much better. It started so well grabbing my attention and getting me dancing but there were some really boring bits. It feels like it would have been better as a stage show but still fun.

This has that lovely eighties look to it. The cinematography was fine but some of the editing was a bit jarring. The music is great but otherwise the sound design is fairly standard. The story was a bit slow but actually quite memorable. Not as good as The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by a long shot, mostly because of the cast.
