Denshattack! surprised me in many ways. Its constant action, accessible mechanics, and vibrant, cinematic visuals create a magical experience that can’t be found regularly. Each stage offers something new, whether it be different objectives or completely different events that change how we play it out.

Denshattack! really hits all the right notes, easy to pick up, but challenging to master, with a fantastic cast and setting, as well as an earworm of a soundtrack that you won’t get tired of. You can really tell the team has a deep and reverent understanding of Japanese Culture. I think the only thing I wish the game had was some sort of leaderboard in regards to stage scores and clear times as I would love to know who truly sits at the top of the Denshattack mountain. If you enjoy titles such as Jet Set Radio, Neon White, you owe it to yourself to experience this one…hell, I’m tempted to delete my 100% save to start all over again!

Denshattack does have fantastic pacing when it comes to adding new mechanics into the game, not only spreading them out across the whole experience but also never overloading you with new mechanics. It does, however, reach a level in the late game where I found myself getting frustrated much quicker because the speed and combination of fresh obstacles were making first runs in levels a bit brutal.

This game is weird and that's what makes it so amazing.
an anime-style score attack game where you ride a train in a post-apocalyptic world shouldn't work, yet it does.
a few of the early levels is you riding inside a volcano and on a gigantic Ferris wheel destroying everything in your path, the creativity in this game is Mario levels of crazy

Denshattack surprises by turning the unlikely idea of train maneuvers into one of the most fun and creative titles of the year. With strong aesthetic inspiration in Persona, impeccable soundtrack and genius boss battles, the game makes up for its indie scale with pure charisma and fluidity.

Proof that Western anime buffs can sometimes pull off the kind of stuff that inspired them with epic flare, Denshattack digs surprisingly deep with its insane premise to deliver a fact paced game of score and style that offers a whiplash inducing tour of sizable swathes of Japan in the process.

Denshattack! is a huge fun crazy bag of pure videogame madness, running at full tilt from the very first level and never letting up for the entire ride.

Denshattack! is pure, unfiltered Video Game. It’s a joy to see in motion, and be a part of what drives that motion. You hit buttons and watch the silly train flip around in the air, grind on rails, and kickflip giant baseballs back at the enemy train who shot them at you with a cannon. It has a fun story with fun characters and a lot of heart, and lots of non-train activities to feed into that part. There’s a ton of depth to mastering the levels, mechanics, and objectives, and plenty of score-chasing and rank-hunting to do. There’s a sick soundtrack full of earworms and sensory overloading nonsense (complimentary). It’s all in service of the kind of package that knows exactly what it wants to be and revels in its weirdness, and that brazen energy is infectious. Despite its simple “it’s X, but Y” premise, Deshattack! is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Denshattack! takes a premise that sounds like a joke, riding a train while pulling off skate tricks, and executes it with the depth and polish of a studio that knows exactly what it's doing. Undercoders keeps piling on new mechanics, wildly varied stages and inventive boss fights so it never grows stale, all wrapped in a gorgeous Dreamcast-inspired art style and a fantastic soundtrack. It runs flawlessly and offers plenty for completionists, even if nailing everything can get frustrating and it could use more game modes. One of the finest Spanish indies of the year.

Denshattack is an inconsistent spectacle that fails to make good use of its chosen themes.

It’s not a meme game of trains doing tricks. It has deep gameplay that builds in complexity with every mechanic added to the base movement. If you like video games, give it a try.
