Budget: $2 million
US Gross: $30, no, worse, $20 dollars (Yes, yes, that's right)
Worldwide: $368.000

To satisfy a Screen Actors Guild's requirement, the director screened the flick in a Texas theater for a week where it earned a mere 30 bucks. And actually they had to return 1/3 of the gross, as 2 of the 6 paying ticket-goers were also crew members.

Zyzzyx Road was shown once a day for six days in Dallas at a movie theater rented by the producers for $1,000. The limited release was deliberate: Grillo was uninterested in releasing the film domestically until after it underwent foreign distribution, but needed to fulfill the U.S. release obligation required by the SAG. The 'strategy' made the film the lowest grossing film of all time, earning just $30.
The film was then released in 23 countries and earned just about $368,000.

'Considering that typically half of the gross box-office receipts go to the exhibitors and half to the filmmakers, Town & Country lost the studio at least $100 million, and probably much more if costs for distribution and marketing are considered, which average around $35โ€“50 million for a studio picture such as this. The studio, having already spent in excess of $90 million, backed a very limited distribution and marketing campaign in the $15-20 million range, bringing the total cost to *$105-110 million.

LIST OF FILMS THAT CAUSED A GREAT LOSS OF MONEY
They are financial flops, box-office bombs, it doesn't mean they suck; so here you might find some good ones, and plenty of crappy ones.
Marketing costs are usually not included; figures are aproximate; inflation not considered; ordered somewhat by $ lost.

There are some others that are often referred as such, but I found their worldwide gross and confirmed that it surpassed the costs, so obviously they didn't get a spot in the list - So don't bother mentioning Waterworld, Cleopatra, Howard the Duck and the like.
There are some famous US box-office flops, however, of which I could only find the US grossing, and they got to be listed below.

If you remember any other big one, or know the worldwide gross of the ones I only wrote the US gross, tip away.
