Head of BizOps at Pocus 🔮

ARR reporting at an early stage company is deceptively hard... The manual approach works… right up until your business gets interesting. For the first 2 years at Pocus, we tracked ARR with a spreadsheet and HubSpot – initially it worked great. Simple setup, fast answers. But then deal velocity accelerated... And we added multiple seat types, services, time periods, and billing structures… And all of the sudden seemingly simple analyses (i.e. revenue by seat type) were not possible without spending hours reconciling data. I’d already been using Equals as my go-to analytics tool, so naturally I turned to them as the experts in ARR reporting. In just a couple of days, they were able to build a fully automated ARR data model, including dashboards that updated automatically. It was a huge unlock. And the best part is because Equals is just a spreadsheet - there was no learning curve. I could own and build on top of their foundation immediately. If you’re still stitching together revenue manually – or manually copying data from SQL exports into a spreadsheet for analysis  – check them out! It's the spreadsheet I always dreamed of 😂. Genuinely one of my favorite tools and their team is incredible (s/o Chris Burgner, Abbey Lauren Minondo)

    Product @ Equals | We're hiring!

pumped to share that i've joined Equals! the team here is exceptional — a rare blend of hunger, maturity, and craft. it's a unicorn combination of wildly ambitious, yet deeply thoughtful builders. and we're building a product customers LOVE. spreadsheets are where work happens — until you need live data. then they break. we fixed that. Equals is the spreadsheet, reimagined: live data connections, real-time updates, and shareable dashboards. customers are saving 10+ hours per week, replacing entire analytics workflows, and running board meetings directly from Equals. three things i've heard this month:  • "Equals is the best thing in my job"  • "it's become essential for business operations — CEO and leadership team rely on it for quick updates"  • "implementation took ~2 weeks vs. 6 months with our previous Looker setup" & 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗬𝗖 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲! in particular, i'd love to work with folks who thrive on complexity & ambiguous problems, have a desire to own projects end-to-end and obsess over quality + performance. JD in the comments. if any of that excites you, please reach out. or if you know of anyone who might be a good fit, please send me a DM with their info. 🤜🤛

CRO at Expo. Expo is how apps are built now.

One of the first things Brenden Song and I did after joining Expo was bring in Equals. We needed a real pulse on the business. What was working, where there were leaks in the funnel, and how fast we were growing. Stripe, usage data, CRM. The basics, but joined up and right. Before we could scale, we had to align on what mattered. We phased our dashboarding across board metrics, marketing, revenue, and product usage. That foundation let every team work from the same set of numbers and understand how their work contributed to growth. It also forced the hard conversations early — what do we believe drives value, and how are we tracking it? We looked at a few traditional BI tools, but the investment and ongoing maintenance felt heavy for where we were as a company. We needed something that could give us answers fast. #Equals had live dashboards up within hours. Then they helped us: ✅ Build forecast models directly in the spreadsheet ✅ Track ARR by product, segment, and plan, and now by sales-led vs self-serve ✅ Get visibility into the top of the funnel ✅ Join up Stripe, CRM, and usage data ✅ Start building a PLG versus sales-led view of the business ✅ Establish Sales dashboards that will scale for the next 3 years   This work shaped some of our most important early calls: • How to price and package our plans • Where to place bets like Workflows, Hosting, and AI • What kind of GTM team we needed and when to scale it Equals was a great partner. Their team gave us guidance, shared benchmarks from other SaaS companies at a similar stage, and helped us build views we could actually run the business on. Thank you to Chris Burgner Sam Rasmussen and Ben McRedmond. Our GTM leaders now review our Equals data every Friday at 9 a.m., and it's hands down the best meeting in the company. If you're scaling GTM or making fast decisions from messy data, Equals is worth your time. I'd be happy to show anyone what we built.

🚨𝗖𝗙𝗢-𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 Stripe processes your SaaS payments. Equals brings clarity to every dollar. At Plannix, we needed to better understand our revenue - fast. Between multiple billing models, the nuances of ARR reporting, and the challenge of making sense of fragmented data, we needed more than just another dashboard in Google Sheets. We needed real visibility. That’s where #Equals came in. ✅ Built our comprehensive ARR waterfall leveraging Stripe data ✅ Engineered an elegant solution to bring in financial data that sits outside of Stripe ✅ Added filters to the unified ARR waterfall to track revenue by product, plan, and billing method ✅ Shipped a finished product that perfectly aligns with how manage the business internally, down to the last detail But the best part? ☑️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀. They took the time to understand how our business works, helped configure reporting around it, and made sure everything was accurate. We felt like having an FP&A lead in-house. They took time to understand our business model, mapped reporting to our internal metrics, and made sure every number aligned — all the way through to investor reporting. We now have a single source of truth for revenue - and the confidence to use it across analytics, board decks, and forecasting. Luca Lixi, Gabriele Concli and all of us at Plannix couldn't be happier! 💡 “𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀.” If you're scaling a fintech, subscription, or multi-product business and struggling with Stripe data, fragmented ARR, or unscalable Excel models - Equals is worth a serious look. Feel free to DM me if you want a warm intro to the team. #CFO #Finance #Fintech #CFOtech #Plannix #Stripe #Equals #Analytics #startup #StartupFinance #SaaS #SaaSFinance

Building the Zendesk killer | CEO @ Pylon

Here's how we track revenue metrics at Pylon 👇 We report on a month-to-month basis and break down: - Net New (sales-led deals) - Expansion (upsells) - Contraction (primarily conversion from monthly to yearly) - Churn - Restart (churned customers coming back) The data source populated from Salesforce, which is partially auto-filled by our CPQ and billing tool Salesbricks 🧱. We separately are also able to breakdown other key metrics like: - Trending ACV - NRR - GRR ...and more! The dashboards and defaults are hosted and setup by Equals and their team! Our team loves these dashboards and we can use them to understand our progress to hit our revenue targets for each month!

🤝 Migration Mondays - Part 6 | Flatfile (from Stripe Billing) 🤝 "Sequence consolidates 4 tools into one automated process: usage ingestion, billing calculations, payment processing, and sales order forms." Flatfile had been putting off their billing migration for 18 months. They knew Chargebee + Stripe Billing wasn't going to scale, but migrating 400 customers felt like a multi-quarter nightmare project. The breaking point came when they realized their complex usage calculations were leaking 6% of revenue through manual errors and edge cases that couldn't be automated. Eric Crane and the team pulled the trigger on Sequence and Equals, and got all 400 customers migrated in under 4 weeks. Within 24 hours of connecting their database, Sequence was handling their hairiest contract calculations automatically, reducing 6% revenue leakage by their first billing run. An additional, major win was unifying sales and finance workflows so their sales team can offer flexible pricing during competitive deals knowing the billing system will handle whatever they throw at it. 📢 Weekly reminder: your billing infrastructure should enable sales flexibility, not constrain it. Partner @ Andreessen Horowitz | Finance Executive

Finance is fun again! Last week at the Andreessen Horowitz SF office, we packed the house (standing room only 🙌) for a special kind of “Demo Day”, where five a16z founders showed off what they’re building for the finance world. Not slides. Not sales pitches. Actual, 15-minute live demos of their products. And the crowd? A room full of sharp finance operators, partners, and folks who’ve been in the trenches. Judging by the head-nods, cell phone pics of dashboards and having their phones in pockets the rest of the time, this hit a nerve, in the best way. My takeaway: we're entering a new era for finance. The era of superpowers: 😀 Real-time visibility into your business (finally, don’t have to wait to close the books every month) 👏 Products that talk to all your data without duct tape or bulky CSV uploads 😊 Instant scenario planning that doesn’t break your spirit (or your ERP) These new products make the old ways look like chiseling on stone tablets. And maybe, just maybe… finance is fun again? Massive thanks to the founders from: 🔹 Sequence and Riya Grover 🔹 Equals and Ben McRedmond 🔹 Concourse and Matthieu Hafemeister 🔹 Runway and Siqi Chen 🔹 Metronome and Scott Woody for showing us the future, and building it.

Building Quanta - Early Notion & Intercom

Last Wednesday night, Quanta co-hosted a First Ops dinner with the Equals team Bobby Pinero & Ben McRedmond for an incredible group of finance leaders at Miller & Lux. We enjoyed outstanding food and lively conversation. Here are some of the most interesting topics we discussed: 📖 War stories navigating ops and GTM as the first finance or business hire at early-stage startups 🤖 AI adoption and build-versus-buy software decision in a world with Cursor, Lovable, and Devin. 💻 Tackling classic dilemmas like siloed systems and scaling 🧑🍳 And, of course, the star of the show: Miller & Lux's Tomahawk ribeye Stoked to keep the conversations going as we continue building the group. If you’re interested in these topics, reach out and I’ll add you to the list for future events.
