Most area outdoor pools and splash pads are scheduled to open for the summer season on Memorial Day weekend. The Park Ridge Park District’s Centennial Aquatic Center, Prospect Park Splash Pad and South Park Wading Pool will open this Sunday (May 24) — one day later than originally planned due to low temperatures forecast for May 23. Hinkley Park’s pool will open the following Saturday, June 6, the park district announced.

The O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission recognized three airlines that use O’Hare Airport for being good neighbors at its annual Fly Quiet Recognition Awards. Created in 1996, the ONCC is an intergovernmental agency established to address airplane noise issues in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. It currently has representatives from several Chicago Northwest side wards, and Northwest suburbs that include Journal-area’s Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Glenview, Niles, Palatine and Park Ridge.
