Excite@Home Joins DC Network

Excite gets their content provision on as Sega's latest partner

Sega of America and Excite@Home today announced their new partnership for providing non-gaming content over the Dreamcast Network, adding to gaming resources already provided by the gang here at IGN.com.

Those who surf with the Dreamcast will now have access to Excite's online content and communities, as well as everything else the web giant offers. In addition to this, over the next few months, Dreamcast web surfers will also have access to Excite's own Dreamcast Internet inferface, specially taylored to present content in its finest form on a television screen, which is immensely different than most computer monitors.

"Following our recent PocketNet wireless deal with AT&T, this deal again reinforces our leadership in providing a consistent user experience over multiple devices and our ability to re-format our content for different media," said Mark Stevens, executive vice president, corporate and business development, Excite@Home. "This relationship extends the Excite service to potentially millions of new users and continues our strategic commitment to deliver interactive information and entertainment services on different devices. Excite@Home is, and will continue to be, at the vanguard of a media revolution as devices like the Sega Dreamcast console and advanced digital set-top boxes transform televisions from one-way broadcast receivers to two-way network terminals. This will not only open up new markets for the Internet, but will also redefine TV programming and advertising as we know it today.

"As we look for ways to expand the gaming experience for the North American consumer, we will continue to develop strong ties with leading content providers who can offer our users the best Web experience," said Peter Moore, senior vice president, Sega of America. "Excite@Home has established itself as an Internet leader through its own online portal and its growing broadband networks. Our partnership with this forward-thinking company further solidifies our plans to bring the most dynamic gam-related offerings to consumers, as we pioneer online console gaming."

This is but one of many planned expansions to the whole of the Dreamcast Network in the months leading up to full gaming service on Sega gaming community. Expect more updates to follow as more announcements are made.
