Heavy rain possible for Houston area, potential localized flooding

Posted on April 20, 2026 · At the beginning of April, all of Harris County was considered to be in a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. However, according to the current drought map, which is updated every Thursday, the percentage of Harris County considered to be in a moderate drought dropped from 100% to 57%.

Posted on October 29, 2024 · According to the National Weather Service, Houston is expected to see a 80% chance of rain on Thursday. However, Houston Chronicle Meteorologist Justin Ballard says he's expecting the weather to be "mostly dry" by the evening.

Posted on September 3, 2024 · It only takes a few bands of excessive rainfall to quickly flood the island's streets. The city's immediate proximity to the water makes the city constantly vulnerable to flash flooding, storm surges and tropical storms.

Posted on April 10, 2024 · The National Weather Service says an EF1 tornado formed west of Houston early Wednesday, when much of the region got at least 1 inch of rainfall and experienced wind gusts in excess of 30 mph.
