Visiting Students
Each year, a small number of postgraduate students come to the Faculty of History as 'visiting students' to undertake a short period of study or supervised research (from one to 12 months).
These students are registered at other institutions, but wish to utilise resources, archives, training or supervision at the University of Cambridge.

Facilities and Resources
Visiting students can access many of the same facilities as full-time students. They are:
- Assigned a supervisor who will work with them during their time at Cambridge
- Given access to the Faculty’s Seeley Library and the University Library
- Given access to the Faculty’s postgraduate study spaces
- Allocated a pro-rata printing allowance (125 pages for each month of the visit)
- Able to attend Faculty-initiated events such as postgraduate training, lectures and seminars (subject to availability)
- Provided with a certificate of attendance toward the end of the visit

Please read the Prospectus carefully before submitting your application.
How to Apply
Please submit your application as early as possible, and at least four months before the proposed visit, to ensure there is sufficient time for processing.
To apply, please complete the Visiting Students Application Form. Once you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email from visiting@hist.cam.ac.uk. Please reply to this email with the following documents:
(1) A full CV/resume.
(2) A detailed cover letter explaining why you wish to come to Cambridge.
(3) An outline of the research you propose to conduct while you are here.
(4) A letter of recommendation from your current supervisor or Head of Department (this letter should comment on the reasons why it would be helpful for you to spend time in Cambridge).
(5) Letter from your home institution confirming: (a) course title, (b) course start and end dates, (c) Cambridge start and end dates, (d) that the period of study at Cambridge is part of your course, and (e) that you will remain registered with your home institution during your visit to Cambridge.
(6) Academic transcripts and certificates of previous and ongoing degrees.
(7) Language test report form or waiver request (please see the Visiting Student Prospectus for more information).
(8) Scan of your passport.

Once we have received these documents and payment receipt, your application will be sent to your proposed supervisor and our Director of Graduate training to be reviewed. The Faculty endeavors to inform applicants as soon as possible of the outcome of their application.
