Welcome to Eugene Malin, Applications Developer

One of the primary directions in HathiTrust’s strategic vision is to invest in core, enabling infrastructure. With the recent hire of Eugene Malin as Applications Developer, we will advance our work towards meeting our strategic vision. In this role, Eugene will help modernize our applications to reinforce technological and operational foundations to preserve and steward the HathiTrust collection responsibly, sustainably, and effectively.

HathiTrust Enterprise Architect, Aaron Elkiss, leads the technical team. “Eugene brings a wide range of full-stack development experience across different environments, from small teams at startups to larger corporate development teams. Eugene’s skills in accessibility, automated testing, data migration and validation, legacy migration, and many other areas will all benefit HathiTrust. I am excited to have Eugene on board and look forward to his contributions.”

Eugene has a BS in Computational Informatics from the University of Michigan (U-M). He has applied his skills in roles at LinkedIn, Ripple Science (a health care software startup), and Deque Systems, as well as in prior experience at U-M. “What excites me most is the opportunity to strengthen the software engineering practices that make modernization sustainable, such as automated testing and development workflows that give the team confidence to move quickly without sacrificing reliability,” he says.

Among many areas of focus, Eugene will collaborate to build accessible technology solutions that enable the use of the HathiTrust collection for a wide variety of users. “HathiTrust’s collection serves researchers and institutions worldwide, and knowing that work supports access to knowledge for people everywhere makes it especially rewarding.” Welcome Eugene!
