Unravel the mysteries of Zeta Halo through Solo or Co-Op play.

The overworld for Halo Infinite's campaign is an open world set on Installation 07 (also known as Zeta Halo), doubling as the hub world for all main and side missions.[2][3][4]

Universe and loreEdit

The ring fragments in TACMAP.
Main article: Installation 07

Halo Infinite campaign is set on the fragmented section of Installation 07, save for the first mission Warship Gbraakon, which is set onboard the Banished dreadnought Ghost of Gbraakon. On December 12, 2559, during the opening stages of the Battle for Zeta Halo, in an attempt to prevent Atriox from accessing the Silent Auditorium or activating the ring, Created Archon Cortana initiated a local self-destruction sequence from the ring. The process killed Cortana and left the local land mass fragmented.[5][6] Over the next six months, while the ring repaired itself,[7] the scattered survivors UNSC forces from UNSC Infinity staged a resistance against the Banished, but the Banished forces ultimately gained an upper hand.[5] The Master Chief was awakened on May 28, 2560, and followed the Weapon's signal to the fragmented region of the ring.[1] Reunited, the two staged a resistance against the Banished occupation led by Escharum. The dreadnought Ghost of Malkadyr is holding position in the sky above.[8]

AreasEdit

The campaign overworld is composed of seven areas; each corresponding to a narrative arc. Access to each area is unlocked after a completing all main missions from the prior area.

The seven areas and their missions are as follows:

Areas Main missions Banished outposts Forward Operating Bases UNSC distress calls High Value Targets
Ringfall N/A N/A N/A N/A
Lockdown
Connections
Graveyards N/A N/A N/A N/A
Reformation
Reckoning N/A N/A N/A N/A
Endless N/A N/A N/A N/A

RingfallEdit

Ringfall is a linear section in the opening of the campaign. The narrative arc is composed of the first three campaign missions: Warship Gbraakon, Foundation, and Outpost Tremonius. The first two missions are set outside of the overworld, and their areas cannot be accessed again outside of replaying the missions. Upon completion of Outpost Tremonius, players are free to explore the liberated outpost's interior, but they are restricted from accessing the remainder of the overworld until they board Echo 216 and progress to the next area of the main story.

LockdownEdit

Lockdown is the southwest ring fragment. The narrative arc follows the Master Chief as he tracks the distress signal from Hudson Griffin; it is told across two campaign missions, Recovery and The Tower. The area occupies a smaller section of the overworld with a small number of side missions, serving as a tutorial for the overworld mechanics, alongside the introduction of the FOB progression system.

ConnectionsEdit

Connections is the northwest ring fragment. The narrative arc follows the Master Chief and the Weapon as they investigate the Banished excavation at Site Novem (during the mission Excavation Site), which eventually leads them to the Conservatory (during the mission Conservatory) before exploring the nearby Reformation Spire (during the mission Spire). The area serves as the first of the two primary open world areas, it features the highest number of Banished outposts as well as the highest number of marine squads broadcasting distress calls.

GraveyardsEdit

Graveyards is the central fragment, with the entire island dedicated to the mission Pelican Down, which is a small open-world mission with the main objective of destroying the three Banished anti-air artilleries deployed across the fragment. Players are restricted from leaving the island until they complete the mission, which concludes with a dual-boss encounter against Hyperius and Tovarus.

ReformationEdit

Reformation is the massive southeastern fragment; it is the second of the two primary open world areas, and the largest explorable area in the game. The narrative arc centers on the Master Chief and the Weapon accessing the Command Spire and bringing an end to the Reformation; the arc is told across three missions: The Sequence, Nexus, and The Command Spire. While the latter two missions are set in linear indoor sections, the open world area serves as the centerpiece for The Sequence, in which the Master Chief travels to four beacon towers to acquire the encryption keys needed to access the Command Spire. This area offers the largest sandbox experience, featuring the most high value targets and two larger Banished outposts. It serves as the final opportunity for players to complete side missions before the narrative shifts back into a more linear structure. Upon entering the Command Spire to start the mission Nexus, players pass through the campaign's point of no return; at that point, the open world is no longer accessible until they finish all main campaign missions.

ReckoningEdit

While not a part of the open world experience, Reckoning is the eastern fragment and the final exterior section of the campaign. The narrative arc follows the Master Chief and and the Weapon as they journey to rescue the Pilot; the arc is spready across three linear missions: Repository, The Road, and House of Reckoning. Like the final two missions in the previous section, the rest of the open world is no longer accessible until players complete the main campaign. While the fragment itself can be accessed after players have completed the campaign, it is largely deserted without any enemy presence, collectibles, or side missions.

EndlessEdit

Endless is the conclusion of the campaign, featuring only one mission, Silent Auditorium, set entirely within the eponymous structure. This mission is a strictly linear environment that is inaccessible from the overworld. The narrative focuses on the Master Chief's final confrontation against the Harbinger, who serves as the immediate threat to the ring while uncovering the dark history of the Forerunners and the titular "Endless", while finding closure with Cortana.

Mjolnir ArmoryEdit

Main article: Mjolnir Armory

Mjolnir Armory lockers contain customization options for multiplayer. Items include emblems, weapon charms, as well as coatings for armors, weapons, and vehicles.

Audio logsEdit

Main article: HINF:Audio log

Audio logs are typically stored in small handheld data pads that glow with different colors (green for UNSC and red for Banished), though Forerunner audio logs are stored at Totem Rings. The audio logs do not grant any gameplay effects, serving solely a narrative role, mainly filling the six-month gap between the attack on the UNSC Infinity over the ring and the Master Chief's return.

Propaganda towersEdit

Main article: Propaganda tower

Propaganda towers are Banished communications pylons with loudspeakers broadcasting banter from Glibnub, an Unggoy communications officer in the Banished. Destroying each tower rewards the player with 10 Valor, a points system that contribute to FOB progression system.

SkullsEdit

Main article: HINF:Skulls

Skulls are well-hidden human skulls with glowing blue runes. They are typically placed in locations that require creative use of the Grappleshot. After players have picked up the skulls, the skulls are unlocked in the main menu, where their gameplay-modifying effects can be enabled. Unlike other collectibles, their unlock progress persists across save files in the same account; the skulls disappear from the world upon reloading a save, and they do not spawn again in all subsequent playthroughs.

Spartan coreEdit

Main article: Spartan core

Spartan cores act as the currency for the Upgrades tab, where the player can upgrade the Master Chief's equipment, including his Grappleshot, Shield Core, Threat Sensor, Drop Wall, and Thruster.

Points of interestEdit

Propaganda totemEdit

Main article: Propaganda totem

Eight propaganda totems broadcasting speech from Atriox are scattered across the landscape. They serve no gameplay purposes.

Production notesEdit

  • The northeastern fragment as well as the three smaller fragments to its west are considered out of bounds; these islands are devoid of any objects (except for a health pack)[9] and remain unused with the release of Operation Infinite, the game's final update.
  • While penning Halo: The Rubicon Protocol, author Kelly Gay and 343 Industries worked to ensure the geographical or positioning details lined up with the game;[10][11] certain in-game locations, including Outpost Tremonius, the Tower, the Conservatory, and a beacon tower's interior, were depicted in the novel as well. Similarly, for Halo: Whispers from the Pyre, the journey taken by Ciar 'Yaham and Dahk'rah was mapped according to the overworld.[12]
  • Upon completion of the main campaign missions, the save file is titled "Finish the Fight" — a reference to the tagline of Halo 3 — instead of what usually would be the most recently completed main mission.
