He said that the power
pilferers were national offenders and they should be dealt with iron hand.
Giving details, he told that special teams of FESCO First Circle checked 13153 electricity connections and caught 604 power
pilferers.
Spokesman further told that in Jhang Circle, FESCO teams checked 23,884 electricity connections and nabbed 1191 power
pilferers.
The teams also took action against 40 Mepco officials for connivance with the power
pilferers. Sources further revealed that the Mepco got registered as many as 12,085 FIRs against the power thieves at different police stations of South Punjab.
Twenty-eight power
pilferers were caught in Multan circle, 12 in DG Khan, 16 in Vehari, eight in Bahawalpur, 13 in Sahiwal, 35 in Rahim Yar Khan, 33 in Muzaffargarh and 18 power
pilferers were nabbed in Khanewal circle during June 4 to 8.
While talking to the media, he said that operation against the power
pilferers have been launched on the directive of Chief Executive GEPCO Mohsin Raza Khan and 156 electricity
pilferers have been imposed total fine of Rs5551,222 while cases have been registered against 56 power
pilferers.
FESCO spokesman said that these
pilferers were caught during special checking of electricity supply meters in Jhang, Bhakkar, Darya Khan, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Kamalia and Shorkot.
