Accelerated hatching of Southern
Leopard Frog (Rana sphenocephala) eggs in response to the presence of a crayfish (Procambarus nigrocinctus) predator.
The northern
leopard frog lays its eggs in the grassy flood plains of the creek; normally many of those eggs would have dehydrated as fields dried out, but that didn't happen this year.
We continued this investigation by collecting
leopard frog tadpoles from Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery ponds, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana in April 2012.
